Mutiny at Craster's Keep

Looking back, I don't know why Mormont was so horrified by Tanner killing Craster. I know the "guest right" rule works both ways (a guest killing his host is cursed by the gods and vice versa), but Craster came at Tanner with an axe. It was self defense. Doesn't excuse the mutiny that followed, but maybe if Mormont hadn't flipped out it wouldn't have happened.

Yeah Mormont probably overreacted but the NW kind of needed Craster's Keep as a forward base so i guess he was just calming his lads down
Overall it was a stupid fight to have on everyones part...boys being boys
Ive done a ton of dumb shit i regret too so i get it...guys get pretty stupid after all...

reply

Perhaps he wasn't horrified by the loss of Caster, but by the loss of control over his men.

Freaking out was the worst thing he could have done, if so.

reply

Mormont knew one thing for sure:

Craster was NECESSARY to protect the lives of Night's Watchmen throughout the years. Not "convenient" or "a good option" but necessary. Nobody else is out there to provide food and shelter, somehow surviving in White Walker and Wildling territory.

Without Craster, there is no refuge in that region, and Watchmen will die.

reply

I guess my question is, how did Craster survive?

reply

He was able to survive by sacrificing his baby boys to the Night King and thereby creating new White Walkers. He made himself useful to the Night King, therefore the Walkers and the dead wouldn't come after him.
