Something that bothers me about Arya

Besides her weird behavior, her presence at Winterfell and her attitude towards Sansa does not make sense. If she felt Sansa was not supporting john why didn't she attend the meetings Sansa holds with the other Lords as Sansa did with Jon and even Rickon did with Bran. What does she do? Just stalk around acting weird and hostile. Is she not a Lady Stark of winterfell or at least Lady Arya of Winterfell which gives her some recognition as Sansa had with Jon?

reply

Arya never wanted to be a lady, and was always sneaking around Winterfell and King's Landing in season 1. She is just doing more of the same, except now they are older and the stakes are higher.

reply

As Cersei said to Brienne, she is the daughter of a Lord, she is a Lady no matter what she say's. Lady Maege Mormont and Lady Lyanna Mormont are warriors and Maege actually fought in battle, so her protests of not being a Lady makes no sense. When was she sneaking around Winterfell or the Red Keep, when she was following the cat? At this point she is old enough to be a contributing member of house Stark, and she told the Faceless Man in Bravos, she is Arya Stark of Winterfell( Lady Stark).

reply

I think that's what Ned was wanting to do for her, show her she can still be a Lady and not have to wear fancy dresses.

reply

Yes, basically Arya had a narrow view of what it meant to be a Lady, but I guess those narrow views where somewhat forced onto her. I am confused as to why she didn't say she wanted to be a Lady, like the Mormont ladies instead of a Sansa.

reply

Maybe, unlike Sansa, she has sense enough to not openly undermine her sister in front of the other lords. It was amusing to hear Sansa complain about the inconstancy of those lords when all of that "maybe we should have chosen you instead of Jon" stuff was born of her own public tantrums.

reply

Not for her to undermine, but to be involved and have a presence. If she involved herself instead of lurking around, that could likely reel Sansa in and put pressure on her to properly stand up for Jon. Arya, while not going against Sansa explicitly, could have added to the dialogue with the lords to assert Jons purpose and support for him.

She's always just kind of a little beyotch. I never liked her much.

Some poster on another thread suggested that she may be acting like a jerk to test Sansa...remember that stage play she stalked cuz she had to 'faceless-man' that actress older lady ... Maybe she is faking all of this annoying 'lil sis behavior...otherwise, yeah...she's being a big pain in Sansa's ass for no reason...

reply

Maybe it makes sense, as she IS a little younger than the others.

Hopefully it's just a phase.

I like your comments Cookie L.A.
Well stated...kids ARE super annoying!

It's hard to know how much of Arya's anger at Sansa is genuine anger, and how much is just her way of trying to wake her sister up. I agree, it reminds me a lot of her training in Braavos. She seems to be doing the same thing the Faceless Men did with her, rubbing Sansa's nose in her own weaknesses to get her to rise above them. That last scene, creepy as Arya was, she seemed to be more or less her showing her sister that she's the one she should be trusting - not Littlefinger. With all her lethal skills, she could easily have killed her and taken her place if that's what she really wanted. Then she gives Sansa the dagger as if to say "You need this more than I do." You know, with all the people lining up to stab her in the back. I think Sansa got the message but again, hard to tell. Arya has the demeanor of someone who could kill you on a whim because you said the wrong thing. Gotta love it!

reply

Totally reasonable
I guess we will see!

reply

She may have that demeanor, but so far every one of her kills have been people who completely deserved it.

reply

Which is exactly why I think everything she said to her sister, during both their conversations, had a purpose. Including telling her that she'd die before betraying her family. Arya may be disappointed in Sansa but she would never hurt her. Handing her the dagger sort of reinforced that, and hinted that there were other people she actually did need to worry about.

When Sansa spoke to Littlefinger you could almost hear him thinking So she's using the letter as leverage, is she? Dammit, that was MY leverage! He's definitely freaked out by Arya. Probably because he knows it's only a matter of time before she comes for him. I think his odds of surviving the season finale are not good. He's going to try something and it's going to backfire disastrously.

Remember, Arya doesn't want to rule the North, she just wants Jon and Sansa to do the ruling in a way she approves of. And since Jon isn't there, she's having a go at Sansa, but not one that will develop into a usurpation. And incidentally Sansa is doing all the gruntwork of ruling the North with no help from Arya, Bran, or Jon, and Arya is criticizing her without offering to do a damn bit of work herself. That annoys the snot out of me.

reply

I like the new Arya, I hope she kills Sansa and adds her face into her collection.

reply

Stark killing a Stark will never happen on the show or the books.
Deal with it!

reply

Arya has always disliked Sansa. I think it is pure sibling rivalry. Arya likes to see her sister stressed out.
