I know we are supposed to hate Theon for jumping ship and leaving Yara with Euron. What could he have done? His only option was to stick around to see his sister, the one person in the world who cares for him, die. I wouldn't want to see and remember that. So yes it was cowardly but what was the alternative?
shareI almost accidentally spoiled myself because I ended up on some website that mentioned a major death next to a picture of Theon. So I spent the entire episode preparing for his death. Now that everything is said and done I kind of wish he had indeed died. I understand why he jumped ship, and it's easy for all of us to be brave behind our computer screens, but I like the character and wanted him to redeem himself. Now he just feels useless.

shareI had no problem with Theon jumping ship sicne he would've just been killed or taken prisoner anyway. He gets to live and fight another day when the odds are in his favor. Also, Theon hasn't been 100% right in the head since his torture.
shareI agree. He was faced with a no win situation anyway so at least his act of cowardice allows him a chance at saving his sister without being so outmatched. He can also get this very useful information back to his allies so that they can be more prepared next time.
shareEven before his torture he wasn't exactly the bravest and sanest person around. He always had some Reek inside him and torture just made it worse.
shareI was rather disappointed he did that but I immediately considered his POV, he really couldn't have done anything else. I'm still hoping that he is more forward thinking than we assume and he is planning something. But to do that, he needs to stay alive and free, both of them imprisoned will not help.
share"He who fights and runs away/Lives to fight another day." Dead guys can't fight. He was not going to be able to take Euron, and he did not want to be the progenitor of his sister's murder. He took the only viable option left open to him. It almost certainly eviscerated what's left of his self-esteem, which means that it took, in fact, great courage. I believe it was General George S. Patton who said, "Nobody ever won a war by dying for his country. You win wars by making some other poor, dumb bastard die for HIS country." Theon chose not to die, thereby creating the possibility for hope in the future.
