Lord Baelish

So what is going to happen to him? No way in hell will I be satisfied when this show ends if that creep is still alive. I can't stand him. I don't hate him as much as I hate Cersei...but I do hate him.

What are your thoughts on his fate?

reply

Seems a bit unfair to spoil here, but there are spoilers on the net if you search.

reply

You have to at least point me in the right direction then!

reply

I don't want to post the link in case anyone inadvertently clicks, but if you google "game of thrones season 7 spoliers", an article comes up that spills the beans, and states where from.

Apologies for the late reply.

reply

Thank you. I'll try that and see if I can find the right article.

reply

Let me know how you fare! :)

reply

At least Sansa finally knows what "he wants". Took her 3 seasons.

reply

Never trust a man that has to whisper everything!

reply

Maybe Sansa will kill him, too. Or Jon will. *shrug*

reply

We can only hope.

reply

Almost certainly, he will die by being outsmarted by Sansa.

GoT has a really strong penchant for justice, and it's often sort of ironic or even poetic. Just about every baddie eventually gets what he has coming to him:

Ramsay feeds people to dogs, so he is eaten by his own dogs.
Tywin values prestige and his family name above all, and dies on the crapper by his own son's hand.
Joffrey enjoys humiliating people in public spectacles, and dies in spectacular fashion at his own royal wedding.
Craster taunts Night Watchmen that he holds their lives in his hand, and then his own life is taken by them.
Meryn Trant enjoys abusing young girls, and is slain by a young girl.
High Sparrow thinks himself untouchable in the Great Sept, which is actually his death trap.
Septa Unella subjects Cersei to abuse and degradation, and gets abused and degraded to death by the zombie Mountain.
Walder Frey kills the Stark clan at a feast in his home, and his whole clan is wiped out at a similar feast. Bonus: He also lives out Bran's story about the Rat King.

So yeah, Littlefinger has been behind the scenes orchestrating the destruction of every house in Westeros, especially the Starks, and targeting Sansa as his ticket to being King of the North and eventually the Iron Throne. Pretty safe to say that Winter is going to fall for him sometime in the next 12 episodes.

reply

Hope it's sooner rather than later. I am sick to death of that man and his constant conniving and whispering everything he says. Such a creep!

reply

Wow! This is an insightful rundown of all the villains on GoT! Thank you. I never noticed that it worked out that way. Justice! I hope you're right about Baelish. I don't remember Bran's story about the Rat King.

reply

Nice comparisons! It does seem that most villains get a taste of their own medicine so to speak. While I agree that it would be fitting for Littlefinger to be outsmarted and manipulated to his death, I'm not sure if Sansa is at that skill level (yet). She still makes quite a lot of mistakes.

reply

But it would be nice to see her to be the one that ended him.

reply

It would. I just don't see it happening in the near future, sorry. Unless she got Arya to help her?

reply

Well Arya does seem to be trained and touched by the Many-face god now...so I think it's possible.

reply

Actually, I don't think that LF wants Sansa as a way of being King in the North, he wants her for other reasons. At the battle of the bastards he could have swooped in and killed Snow and Bolton and the remnants of their armies, and declared himself Kinginthenorth if he'd wanted to, or declared Sansa queen. But he didn't, and I don't think he wants the North at all. I think he wants to he king of Westeros, and to that end he wants puppet rulers in seven kingdoms - he's got two now and betcha he tries to do the same thing with Edmure in the Riverlands next!

It's not clear how he feels about Sansa. I think he's incapable of romantic or sexual love, but he may want her as a possession somehow. Rumor says he's "obsessed with her" but his actions show him to be fairly indifferent to her welfare. If he really does want her, the writing on that front has been sloppy at best.

reply

He "loved" Catelyn and was jealous of Ned. Since Sansa takes after her mother appearance-wise, Littlefinger lusts after Sansa now. Which is gross, but whatever. The books might have went into it more than the show, but it's something along those lines. I think. I could be wrong.

reply

I think his feelings toward Caitlyn were more ego and possessiveness that romantic, I think he's a sociopath and doesnt feel anything for anyone. But Caitlyn was a prize that was denied to him during his formative years, I think he wanted to possess her and the feeling stayed because she was the one prize he could never attain.

And yes, clearly some of those feelings have transferred to Sansa, but it's not clear how much. He's certainly keeping her alive when it would be expedient to send her head to Cersei, but then he threw her to the Bolton's like he'd throw a bone to a dog. If he does love her or want her, the show's writers have failed to make his actions reflect his feelings.

reply

I hope the writers don't show her falling for his manipulations. I DO hope she remains strong and it would definitely be nice if she were the one to bring him down.

reply

Yeah, I think the show-writers made a mistake in having Littlefinger give her to Ramsay. In the books, it was a fake Arya that was forced to marry Ramsay.

I'm not quite sure how much Littlefinger can love, but you could easily be right about him being a sociopath.

reply

I know Edmure was forced to return to the Riverlands with Jamie and kick the Blackfish out, but did he stay there? Didn't Walter Frey say something (last season) about Edmure being back in the dungeon at The Twins? If Edmure is at The Riverlands, is there an army keeping him loyal to the Lannisters/Freys?

reply

Paladin, that is an impressive assessment of the show's cause-and-effect relationship between cruelty and justice. Thank you for providing us with that structure.

Please give my regards to Hey Boy, too.

reply

Thanks for catching my references!

reply

Arya will kill the little weasel.

reply

After watching tonight's episode, I think you're right.

reply

That's what I am thinking too. She's on her way to Winterfell and I think she might know more about how he betrayed Ned. But Littlefinger wasn't on her list, was he?

reply

im kinda rooting for him to wind up on the iron throne. As far as I can tell he is the most important character to the story.

1. Betrayed Ned
2 helped kill Joffrey
3 saved Jon snow from Ramsey
4 from the shadows, initiated the war between cersei and the religious people which ended in tommen killing himself
5 gave Sansa to Ramsey

Those are Major plot points. He deserves the throne more than anyone on this show, besides stannis lol

reply

Ummm, you event forget his most important move:
It was Baelish who convinced Lysa to poison Jon Arryn and to write a letter to Catelyn Stark claiming the Lannisters were behind this.
It’s no wonder that GoT started with Jon Arryn’s death, because… hey, think about it, most of the plots emerged from the events that were set in motion by his death, arranged by Baelish.

Well, the Non-Daenerys plots at least. As far as we know, he wasn’t involved in anything that has to do with Daenerysstormbornofthehousetargaryen-firstofhernametheunburnt-queenoftheandalsandthefirstmen-khaleesiofthegreatgrasssea-breakerofchainsandmotherofdragons.
Hey, but Varys was!
So, in the end, it all might be about who of those two guys were better at the game of thrones. ;-)

reply

Baelish is a great character. He will most definitely not make it to the end, but you never know. He is really into Sansa. I think he likes her because she is Katlyn's daughter and being with her would somehow fulfill his love of Katlyn.

I think he will meet a very horrible end and I can't wait. Hopefully will be in the last season though. Maybe he'll become a white walker and will be seen wandering north of the wall in the end with nobody.

reply

I can't wait either! It's long over due! And I like what the poster said above...if you think about it....all the problems these characters have faced can most certainly be traced back to something this man has done!

reply

I don't want him to become a White Walkers.

If he did, he'd try to kill the Night's King and take over the Army of the Undead, and lead the war against humanity himself.

reply

Oh yeah. Totally forgot that! When he is on screen I pay more close attention than any other character. He's played everyone masterfully at one point or another

reply

If the question is "Who is playing the Game of Thrones?"
The #1 answer is: Littlefinger

But I still see him as the antagonist, and destined for an ignoble end

reply

Yes. It seems in the face of an existential threat such as white walkers or dragons, Baelish's games serve no purpose. And since he has no redeeming personality traits other than playing the games, his character will either fade away or be killed. Makes sense.

reply

He thrives on conflict and uncertainty and influencing people to make decisions that solidfy his power or position. If people stop listening to him he has no power beyond that of a nobleman of the Vale region.

If he decides to quietly pledge allegiance to Jon for the remainder of his natural life he's likely to survive. If he undermines Jon then the risk is that the White Walkers will overrun Westeros and kill everyone including Baelish. I don't think he would be welcome in Dany's court.

reply

I would hope one of Dany's dragons would eat him. I want him gone. He has to pay for this entire thing!

reply

Jon Snow certainly doesn't trust Lord Baelish does he? I was hoping he'd go ahead and kill him.

reply

How hard did Littlefinger get when Jon temporarily handed the North over to Sansa? Votes? Pasta al dente? Carrot? Brick? Rock? Anvil? Came in his pants? I'm going with the latter. His expression was the result of some really great acting. Nonetheless, I LOVED IT when Jon grabbed him by the throat😆! I was hoping that Jon would end him, the snake who ended his father, then and there.

reply

lol! Oh yeah...I'm sure he was rock hard when that happened. Chance to manipulate...increased! Something tells me Jon should have just killed him. Thank the gods that Sansa still has Brienne there. Someone will need to be the brains there.

reply

Brains, muscle, honor, COURAGE, integrity, kind, caring, commited . . Brienne of Tarth has it all. My fear is that GoT will end her life in a tragic and disgraceful way, like Father Zossima in the novel, "The Brothers Karamozov."

reply

They better not do that to Brienne! I'll never forgive the show if they kill her in some disgraceful way. Brienne is one of my favorite characters. In fact...I'd prefer it if she remains alive until the end.

reply

I as well, which I hope is clear; but if that is the the narrative's choice, the underlying hope (as in Dostoevsky's novel) is that the audience will see that the character is in fact a saint, regardless of the circumstances of her death.

If I had the power to save two characters in this story, it would be Arya and Brienne; and, if it was only going to be one of them, and when and if Brienne learns that Arya is Kat's daughter, she would lay down her life in less time than it takes to tell, in order to save her.

If Brienne must die, let it be in Jaimie's arms, while Arya slaughtes Cersi.

reply

I like the way you think R_Kane. I am hoping against all hope that Brienne doesn't die and I am sure you are as well...but if she does, let Jaime be there for her. And yes, Arya should be the one to slit Cersei's throat! Indeed!
