I'm still excited to watch the next season but I've kinda lost any hope that...

it'll be any good after how terrible the writing in season 6 was.

But the last episode made up for a LOT, it made the whole season worthwhile!!!

I'm such a fanboy...

Agreed.

I wasn't that impressed with season 6 either. But I'm still invested enough to see how this ends.

And if we don't like what they do, at least we'll have the book, if it ever sees the light of day...

reply

I don't think the books will ever be finished. Not only because Martin has written himself into corners he doesn't know how to get out of, but because he'll either have to copy events from season 6-8 of the TV show or contradict them.

So he can either put in years of hard slog to fix the books, or sit back and collect buckets of money from HBO while other writers finish it for him. Who wouldn't take Plan B?

reply

I wouldn't have a problem with the books contradicting with the show. They are the original material and their own thing. But I think it'll be a difficult thing to pull off in either case at this point.

Most people at Martin's age are already retired, so I don't blame the guy for wanting to take it easy. But still, the selfish part of me just wants for him to get on with it. I don't know if he had some basic story outline or a character bible (or whatever you call those things) when he was starting out, but that sure would come in handy right about now.
