Lack of sleep or lack of sobriety

While this show tries to present Paula as this overexhausted, underslept star just trying to make it through the day, it's plainly obvious from her slurred speech and her bizarre mannerisms that's she's on something.

Hey, she may be tired if she's on QVC hawking tacky crap 'til 5:00 in the morning, but she must be taking something to keep herself up at all hours.

What was interesting is that she says she doesn't sleep, but she's drinking Starbucks at 3:00am. Ummm...maybe that's why you're not sleeping!!

I always knew, but now I know.

Yeah, it's really obvious. She's acting loopy like Farrah and Anna Nicole did. If she admits to it then she'll "have" to take responsibility and go to rehab, perhaps lose her job on AI, etc. And apparently she's not ready for that, so they have to use excuses like lack of sleep. It's sad, really. I just hope she doesn't end up like Anna Nicole.

I noted they kept saying she never does RECREATIONAL drugs. They never denied prescription drugs which can be just as dangerous and addicting. I've heard mention of her having injuries from her years of dancing. Perhaps she has a prescription for she's taking, but that doesn't make her sober!!!

reply

I noticed the same thing. I'm sure she's abusing some sort of prescription drug(s).

Well to me it looks like she suffers from lack of sleep, and I'm sure anyone who doesn't sleep for two days is not going to be all the way on. From the looks of it her schedule looked crazy which meant her sleep schedule's crazier. That classic interview with her slurring words they said she did dozens of interviews before that to promote Idol. And yet the media struck again with portraying her as a pill popping drunk.

reply

But something's amiss. What's wrong with her saying "no, I'm busy, I have to do that another time". C'mon now, Paula does not have to exhaust herself that extensively if she doesn't want to. Whether it's drugs or lack of sleep, she's being irresponsible. She's risking her health and for what? To promote the most popular show on TV? It doesn't make sense.

If her behavior is not physical - e.g. popping pills, then it's emotional - e.g. not being able to say "no", or being afraid she'll miss something if she falls asleep. What insomniac drinks coffee at 3am, or wakes herself up when she doses off? (Which is what she did in the limo...)

I'm not dogging her, I'm just calling it like I see it.

I always knew, but now I know.

O.K, she wants to be noticed , but this is laughable. I don't know what producer or publicist advised her to do this but they should be fired. NOW! Hopefully if there is another Idol (Please No) she will be absent. The falling over the dog incident was a huge nudge that this clown needs rehab.

Denial is a weird thing. It sure looks like a drinking problem and her assistant doesn't deny it when they bring it up. That much alcohol you'd smell it. What a mess to watch. It's like they never cancelled Breaking Bonaduce.

Whilst I can see why you are so impassioned in your zeal to 'correct' so many of us regarding the clinical manifestations of Depression/Anxiety Disorder; you are disingenuous in your generalization that 'none of us know a thing' about depression, mental illness and anxiety disorders. I can attest to being a fairly astute study on persons with these disorders, and i've worked in the medical profession for over 20 years. I am also a grown woman with a family and career and over 40 years of life experience which well grooms my emotional and mental intellect. Whilst I cannot 'see dead people', I can read 'live'people generally well - hehe.. Paula may or may not be suffering from depression and anxiety problems, however it's very likely that she's indeed suffering from: insomnia, eating disorder, emotional lability, extreme pressure/stress, lack of professional help, and at the very least, addiction to some medication or alcohol.
I think you add some very thought-provoking issues to the board, however before you judge others (a sad 'codependent' side effect of treatment),accept that others have wisdom and opinion.
Yes, it's true that mental illness causes people to act inconsistently, appear absent minded and emotionally labile; however, it's not common to see a depressed person agree to display all of these behaviors on national television. Most would tend to withdrawl or hide their illnesses. One thing we know for sure; Paula needs some professional and friendly loving help.
Sometimes we all do.

SWT JNE -
Well said. If Paula has a mental illness, and it's not a pharmacologically induced issue, then the best thing for her to do is take care of herself.

By exposing herself to the harsh world of Hollywood and the "image machine", she's only aggravating the very areas in which she is most vulnerable - her self esteem and sensitivity to her physical appearance. Hollywood is the worst place for her to be.

Let's look at this another way. If she does have mental issues go get help. But what if this is just another celebrity doing wacko stuff for publicity? She has said on one episode she hasn't had a hit cd since Bill and Hillary had sex. She isn't the first celebrity who is on the skids to try something like this for attention. Idol is the only gig she has now.

She is also playing it up for the cameras. One minute she is bawling her eyes out and then the next she is sitting there calm. I know there can be editing but whoever is editing it makes her look like a lunatic. And why doesn't she carry any money is she that cheap as well?

Hey Paula is like Anna Nicole's show in that we all are watching a trainwreck. When Idol finally bites the dust where will she be then. She has nothing else going. Maybe she will do an informercial selling her old cds at 3 am.

BUT what is truly sad is she doesn't seem to be getting help. I mean it's NOT help for people around her to be all "YES people". It's not helpful for these "YES people" to put her on a reality show to show her taken a downward spiral. The only good that can come from it is she see it and it be a wake up call which I doubt. She wants act like nothings wrong . I would like to believe that most people would be in her corner if she just owned her stuff. What ever it is. Health, mental or substance. Any three of them can cause her behavior. My son suffer from Bipolar and can go for days without sleep and then start to have a break with reality. It's very very scary. AND it's always brought on by extreme stress and anxiety.Meds have done wonders for him. I wish her the best. She does seem like a nice person!

WHY not get help for it?????? I mean why not seek treatment????? If she has this thing where she can't sleep.....go get help!!! I guess that's why I'm not buying the excuses. Why would you let yourself look like a total whack job and not go get help for "sleep deprivation" .....that why I think it more serous. I think and this is JUST my opinion which really doesn't mean diddly....I think she's hook to prescription meds and think because they are prescribed that she's not abusing them. It's sad! Classic Denial!
