K.K. Downey @ Cinequest

All the scensters from all the scenes came together and said "pretty dope movie, dude."

I saw this movie this afternoon and yesterday night, and it was my favorite from the festival. The characters are very well developed. Heck, even the minor characters like Scary Mary and the cute gay K.K. groupie have enough personality that you get a sense of who they are.

The writing was awesome. I loved the scene with Voltaire, and the "J.D. Salinger". The humor was clever yet familiar and I laughed just as hard at my second viewing as I did on the first. I kept trading looks with my friends because we know people who are as similiarly ridiculous as the characters.

The movie isn't perfect by any means, but what movie about an "imaginary" intersexed hustler is? There are some points where the acting seems a teeny bit forced but there's always a good line to recover. The only part I didn't care for was the scene where Terrence was dressed as a baby.

The cast was there during the Q&A, and they're funny people. I talked with one of the co-directors today and he was very personable. Pat Kiely and Darren Curtis have got a LOT of talent (something must be in the water up in Montreal) and I wish 'em the best. Get that DVD out!!!
