First person AND 3rd person

i would like to see a metroid prime where you can switch between first and third person views, not just in ball form. I think this would enhance an already great series and make it even more ultimate. This way it could bring back the super speed and make the space jump scenes really intense and still keep metroid prime series the same style and quality.

I dunno, a third person platformer might end up too much like those sucky 3D Castlevania games.

I want one!!

ya im all for avoiding the suckiness taht could be involved, i would just rather be ble to switch views to whatever the situation called for and/or according to personal taste. 3rd person for speedboost and jumping, first person for visor and targeting.

but the developers were trying to make the experience as personal as possible. make you feel like you ARE samus. thats why aside from the ball, you are looking through her eyes. i dont think a 3rd person perspective would work for the prime games.

My boyfriend and I were talking a little while back about how it might be neat to have MP3 as a Third person game. Resident Evil 4 is like that and we really enjoyed the third person point of view on that game.

The style of gameplay thats offered on a Metroid game wouldn't suit anything but side-scrolling or FPS, in the style that Retro Studios have shown us.

Although the Morph Ball was in Third Person - it was clearly a necessity for us, the gamers, to have. Otherwise it'd just look wrong rolling around in First Person mode, haha.

The only way I'm going to really feel like I am Samus is if I have a sex change and don her killer armor. I don't think an optional third-person mode which you are never required to use would hurt anyone. Remember Shadows of the Empire?

The game was originally third Person (reffering to the original Metroid Prime on Gamecube), but they changed it because they indeed wanted to make you feel as if you -were- Samus and not just -playing- her. I even think it was Miyamoto's personal idea to make it first person, which made the conversion from first to third-person (morph-ball mode) really hard for the developpers, but they have pulled it off pretty nice.

The seamless transition from first person view to third person morph ball (and going back to first person view) was genius.

I agree with you, sketchyninja.
Especially in the parts where you really need to watch your steps.
