Rapey Vibes

I really enjoyed this film, but without more of his back story I question The Man's motivation for sticking it out. He's just a creep-a-saurus rex. Also, I don't believe his past with addiction can explain his unrelenting optimism. Wouldn't have minded more of his story and less of the video store gang. Great job on writing, directing, starring. The agony of his unsettling, unflappable positivity rendered stillborn in the face of her frigid constitution; I had to see how it turned out. I wanted his past addiction and his initial lie to be addressed as well. I guess I'll have to wait for Gooder Dick: The Quickening!

I didn't get any of those vibes from Jason during the film.

He was kind of a creeper who could have been pursuing her because she was vulnerable and damaged goods. But at the same time he was really patient and sweet, if pushy, and I wondered why he put up with her.

I really agree with the OP here. The Ritter character just wasn't real enough to make the film work really well. The film was decent, but not great because of the main fact that his character didn't have any real motive to love this woman, except that he was just some sort of weirdo.
