So is the quest for tower an homage to Stephen King's The Dark Tower

just wonderin if this is tie-in homage to King's 7 book saga. the tower scene kind of reminds me of it. than again, it also reminds me a bit of the movie The Wizard of Oz, too. Or is it an allusion to Tolkien's The Lord OF The Rings? perhaps, it's just a mix all of them.

And of course, the final scene reminds us of Back To The Future and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Failure.

I think you're thinking too hard about it. It's a blatant homage to all those movies. No secrets or inside-jokes here.

reply

Despite what the other guys say, I'm kind of wondering that myself. Because the whole thing does kind of have some similarities to The Dark Tower and to the poem that inspired it: Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. The main character goes on a journey to a Dark Tower with some friends and loses them along the way just to make it to a Dark Tower and we have no idea how it turned out. Very similar. One confirmed similarity as said on Wikipedia, is that the floating door was in The book called "The Drawing of the Three" Good to see someone else other than me noticed the similarities

By your logic this is also an homage to The Gummy Bears because the characters had shoes.

reply

Ghostie, you must not have read the series, because there are some major homages going on here. They even say in the video commentary for "Skrales" that the doors were and homage to The Drawing of the Three. I'm also pretty sure that the look of the tower and its surrounding are also an homage to the series.

This sig has something you wish you thought of first, now you can't use it cuz I used it already.

reply

Well you must not have watched the Gummy Bears because the shoes they wear are exactly the same as the shoes in this show. They were on the feet and everything.

reply

Well, if there was, in fact, a show like that and they wore those shoes, then yes, the shoes they wear in Fat Guy would probably be a reference! It's not bad to think something is a reference when there's good evidence that it probably is.

Clearly referencing Dark Tower. The door on the beach, the tower surrounded by roses (though on closer inspection in this show they are buffalo chicken flowers), the number 19 everywhere.

Heya guys,

Curtis here (I co-write the show and play Chains).

The answer is, "yes" we did purposefully pay an homage to the Dark Tower series, of which we are very big fans.
