Blown opportunity (spoilers)

I thought Moreau was actually really good. I thought the first part of the movie was pretty well done and atmospheric. Then it went completely off the rails when the 'good' stuff started happening. I had no issue with the special fx, didn't find that very important. It would have been nice to have the slightest idea of what was going on though. Assuming this was some sort of satanic cult the why did they let her go, much less go with the baby? They had no problem killing before. And what in god's name was that last shot with blood coming from her mouth? And were they not really human (zombie like dude who seemed to be real unlike the old lady)? And why didn't the sister call the cops? No one seems to have any real idea of what was going on here. Has anyone found anything close to an explanation? I don't mind leaving with some questions or something that was open to interpretation but this struck me as just lazy writing.

Can't really help you. I watched about the first hour, then turned the channel and flipped in and out, then watched the ending. Naturally, I was confused, but I thought it's because I stopped watching. But now coming on these boards...it actually seems I understood as much as everyone else! So that says something about confusing the movie is. I was totally expecting to find clarity on these boards but, nope.

From the first half, I totally thought it was going to be a Gaslight deal where the boyfriend was trying to drive her insane as part of another film he was making. Like, first he made a film about her progress, and then was going to film make her going back to being crazy. And her friend, Tina or Gina, was in on it with him.

But then I saw the girl about the baby...well I still thought my first theory would work. Like, since the friend had mentioned there being a half-eaten baby in the house...he was going to "plant" a baby in the house to further scare her.

But then it stopped. Then it turned into more of a ritual type thing. The boyfriend was getting money by acquiring a baby for some kind of ritual that, I guess, was to take place at the house? And the guy with chains was part of the ritual, I guess? Maybe the creepy shadows were other people who had died in the ritual. I don't know.

And the grinning bloody mouth at the end...seemed to be the baby's mom, so now maybe she's another ghost in the house. Or will haunt the main character for the baby.

But wtf. I liked my idea better even though it's been done before.
