'Hello, Mother?' (Casting Goof)

WTF?

Okay I know we are supposed to suspend disbelief when watching science fiction, especially in the SG universe, but are we supposed to become completely irrational?

In what universe would it be possible for Claudia Black to give birth to Morena Baccarin? When that scene happens I nearly fell to the floor in giggle fits.

Claudia Black would have had to been seven years old when she was pregnant with Morena Baccarin. C'mon writers and show runners, you can do better than this!

What are those initials you see after the names of casting directors in the final credits? I assume they had to be officially trained or certified. There is no way any of us believe that the one lady could be the mother of the other.

Thank you for putting two incredibly beautiful and talented actresses in this film, but you must have a wormhole in your head if you think we are going to buy this hogwash.

Watch the show first.

There's nothing irrational about it.

Vala gives birth to Adria in the Stargate universe. Morena was not the original actress to play the role of Adria.

C'mon viewer, you can watch the show before the movie!

Casting Society of America.

There is no way you will believe she is her mother unless you watch the series first, or at least the last 2 seasons.

Thank you for putting two incredibly beautiful and talented actresses in this film, but you must have a wormhole in your head if you think we are going to buy this hogwash.

You must be missing the wormhole in your head, which prevents you from making the connection between the point of origin (Adria's first episode) with the destination (The Ark of Truth).

AoT is not a stand-alone movie. Before watching it, it is best to view at least a few key episodes from SG1. Or, if you only want to view 1 episode, which answers the question of the apparently adult-aged Adria, then watch:

Stargate SG-1, season 10, episode 1, "Flesh and Blood".

Tried to watch the later seasons of SG to see what you are referring to, but sadly Netflix does not offer that in streaming video, so I will just have to take you word on that for now. I am not going to pay an extra $11.00 to get discs mailed to me, just to find out.

I was a fan of the original movie and the first few seasons. The only reason i even found out about this particular mini-movie was from watching Farscape and learning that Claudia and Ben joined this show when it was under the axe and long after i stopped watching it. If it ever makes the streaming library of Netflix, I will checkout what you are talking about.

I understand how it would be frustrating for a new viewer, or recently reacquainted viewer, of the Stargate shows/movies to see AoT only to be thrown off track with some aspects of the story. It really requires viewing the final seasons of the show in order for it to make sense. If anything, just watch the episode, "Flesh and Blood," which completely explains the cast change for the Orici.

If you don't want to fork out the money then watch it online through an "alternative" (free) source, though as an avid follower of Stargate, I recommend against that. If at all possible, pay the money, support the franchise. Even if they remain on indefinite hiatus. Anyway, send me a private message if you want a link to a source that allows alternative viewing methods.

I suggest watching that one episode and if that peaks your curiosity, then pay for it, rent or buy the seasons. Maybe there's a local video store you can rent them from. If not, search through the "google shopping" pages for the lowest priced DVDs. Or rent via streaming.

You asked if it's worth the investment. Yes. You mentioned Farscape, Black, and Browder. When Farscape originally aired, I remember someone in my family was really into the show, so I tried watching an episode with them. I absolutely hated it. At the same time, I was and am a huge fan of Stargate (all the shows and movies). When Claudia and Ben made the move over to SG1 in final seasons of that show - after seeing them in Stargate - that peaked my curiosity, so I saw the Farscape series. And I fell in love with Farscape, at which point I went out and bought the entire series box set (plus the PKW).

Keep in mind, the final seasons of SG1 have undergone a great amount of development since the early seasons, so it's a good idea to remain open-minded about the show as you watch them. They introduce the Ori, which you now know about from having seen The Ark of Truth. You will still see some Goa'uld and other old-school plots going on in the final seasons of SG1 but it makes the shift to focus more on the Ori. I think it's amazing. Very well written, produced, the acting, everything.

Similar to how Claudia and Ben being in SG1 helped reintroduce me to Farscape, perhaps their being in Farscape will help reintroduce you to the rest of Stargate.

To echo o-lO-o-Ol-o, anyone who'd watched the series to the end would understand completely why the casting stands up without a problem, so simply put, watch the series.

What if he'd taken both the red pill and the blue pill?

Can I bother you to loan me the discs of the last two years of the series?

LOL!

Seriously, is it worth the investment to see how Claudia Black and Ben Browder closed the first installment, or not?

reply

Adria's growth into adulthood was accellerated by the Ori.
You would understand that if you watched the show.
