Are you surprised about that explicit interracial sex scene?

That is still very rare with mainstream movie releases. This movie is a small indie movie that was never in movie theaters in the U.S. Or if it was it was a very limited release.

It wasn't released in the midwest where I am.

I've never heard of Saffron Burrows but it seems she's on Law and Order or something. I wouldn't think the producers of that show would be too happy with this and you would think it could cost her her job on big network TV show on NBC.

reply

she is an actress. one has to play a role where sometimes would be considered against ones morals. it would be ludicrous for a network to fire her b/c of a past role. If that was the case, would be a lot of actors without jobs these days.

so nope. not surprised

reply

Of course they'd fire her or him because of a past role. If an actor was found to have done porn in the past and they didn't know about it until later on then I bet there's a very good chance they'd get fired.

The scene she did wasn't as hardcore as porn but it wasn't exactly softcore either.

reply

The scene was hardly softcore. We see a back view of the woman sitting ontop of the man. The notion that the nudity in this film was in any way sensational or pornographic is incredible - irrespective of misplaced concerns about interracial sex.

BTW, Saffron Burrows (who is British), isn't the first L&O regular to have done nudity. Annie Parisse has done so on the NY stage, Julianne Nicholson had extensive full, frontal nude scenes in FLANNEL PAJAMAS, and Kathleen Erbe did a bold piece of nudity as a death row prisoner on OZ. That's just the women. Chris Meloni and JK Simmons were bare in OZ as well, and countless guest actors over the decades have "done it" as well. It is merely another "tool" in the way stories are dramatized, on stage, screen, or even t.v.

reply

Who's complaining? It was the happiest lovemaking scene I've seen in a non-porn release.

reply

I found it meh to be honest. Hardly explicit. I guess some people are not used to nudity!?

I guess that some aren't used to interracial sex either.

reply

No?
Are you surprised that its "explicit", or that it is interracial?
Either way I think all the sex scenes is this film are very well done. They moved the plot, explained things about the characters and most importantly were not gratuitous. Plus they showcased some very beautiful people.

'Cause we all end up in a tiny pine box, A mighty small drop in a mighty dark plot.

I think the sex scenes were part of the persona she developed once she thought she was going to die ot that's what the writer wanted to express. That being she was going to die she felt obligated to try out all the taboo and bad things deemed by society. Spending tons of money, lesbianism, interacial sex. Probably some more.

I agree, the sex scenes were absolutely no big deal.

There appears to be a lot of UPTIGHT ULTRA conservative racists posting in this message forum about this film. Some people need to leave their little insulated tiny home towns more often!

Too many people in this film's message board seem overly concerned re the race of the man. Why aren't some of you, who are so upset about his race, not carping about the fact that he was a married man cheating on his wife?!

The 'uproar' over the 'interracial sex scene', as well as the lesbian scene, is way over the top. It's downright hilarious! The ultra conservatives posting on IMDB are utterly ridiculous. If movies like this one upset your uptight sensibilities, you need to stay away from them.

There is a whole world out there, where people of different races, creeds, religions and nationalities DO interact, as friends, and also sexually, imagine that?!

As for the posters simply commenting on Melody having sex with a black man, had the character had sex with about 50 different white men during the time period she lived in the loft, would there be such an uproar?! The over-the-top comments here seem to stem from the fact that there was a black man, with a foreign accent no less....lol....and a woman...Melody had sex with. Melody had sex with TWO people over the period of a few months, this is hardly shocking.

Had Melody slept with lot of white men, the comments would be much different.

As far as Saffron Burrows losing her job on "L&O: Criminal Intent", the show has been canceled, so it's a moot point. Though, I doubt any actor, or actress, who stars on a popular TV show would lose their steady TV job over nudity, or simulated sex scenes, they've done in non-porn theatrical films. That idea is completely outrageous and laughable.

Directors hire actors and actresses based on their talent, if their look is the type they need for the role and how the actor, or actress, fits into the director's vision of the film. Besides, there are a few porn actresses who have already crossed over to regular films!

Some of the comments I've been reading here on IMDB, really boggle the mind! It's 2011 people, let go of some of your puritanical values!

Leave the stifling worlds of your backwards home towns once in a while, experience new places, meet new people, learn a new language, learn an instrument, read a lot of books which feed your brain, eat different types of foods, in short: experience life beyond your insular close-minded little worlds!

Sometimes I wonder if some of these uptight posts are parodies. Because, anyone can read about any film before renting it or watching it on a cable movie channel, if you think the film is going to upset you, simply don't watch it.
