I do like the movie and the screenwriter did a good job but come on, surely he could've thought of a more plausible way to establish a connection between the characters, for instance, Gabe visiting his brother and Shaun picking it up. What are the odds of Zach keeping the walkie talkie turned on if Gabe was off to college and hadn't used his in years?

For me, the whole thing with the walkie talkies was the only weak, contrived thing in this otherwise wonderful little film (well, that and the way Zach calls Jeanne "sis" in the first scene just to establish who their relationship which was unnecessary as they both have the same dad). We do actually see Cody finding Zach's WT handset and playing with it so he could well have left it turned on, but the idea of Shaun finding Gabe's on the very same day and the idea of them both still working after all this time was a bit too much. And then at the end, Shaun just happens to have his ready and switched on yet again as he's preparing to leave when there is no reason in the world for him to do that.
