I quite enjoyed it, although the scheming got a bit confusing after a while. I'd been looking forward to it since the trailor came out! Makes me wonder if the real Royal family are like that...
'I thought it was a compelling arguement for bringing back the guillotine.'
For the writers maybe....
I hadn't seen the trailers (although a friend told me it looked awful) but I remember reading about it a while back and it was being lauded as 'The British West Wing'.
Hmmm. Maybe if The West Wing was a terribly written, cheap looking, shoddily acted piece of sub soap opera garbage. I missed it on TV but watched it on itv.com (even without the ad breaks it felt long) and it was one of the most excruciating and unbelievably bad pieces of television I've ever come across, even by ITV's standards.
Ah well, maybe they wanted it to be in the same league as Footballer's Wives or Bad Girls. In that regard they succeeded.
Face facts; since Cracker and Prime Suspect finished ITV has been unable to produce good drama.
'You know, it ain't altogether wise, sneaking up on a man when he's handling his weapon'
As a piece of light drama entertainment i.e Footballers Wives, it was very successful. I was interested and amused by the characters.
As an insight into how Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family are organised, it think it is probably so far from the truth as to be laughable. There was absolutely no evidence of protocol, loyalty or the inherent formality that is evident even when we see candid footage of our genuine Royals.
I enjoyed it, thought it was entertaining. Needed to suspend disbelief and not take it too seriously, but isn't that what entertainment is supposed to be about? Shame they aren't doing a second series - but then again it shouldn't surprise me if I'm honest. If it doesn't have a cop or hospital theme it seems we can forget seeing it nowadays.
