History of the fictional royal family

Looks like I'm one of the few posters who loves this show! Oh well...

Anyway, I was wondering if anyonne spotted something I missed, or has read anywhere, how the history of the fictional royal family derived from actual British history. I don't remember them mentioning a surname for the current family yet. I'd so love to see a family tree (ok, I'm a total geek for that stuff!)

I like this programme too!

A name has not been mentioned for the fictional royal family and thus far no family history either. Unless I missed it, but I don't think so. I guess the implication is that the characters are from the house of Windsor and maybe in a future episode we'll hear a name other than that.

I suppose it's a bit like the excellent House of Cards trilogy when no names were mentioned, but certain things were implied. That is to say The King in "To Play The King" was King Charles III, the princess who lived in the big house in Kensington was the late Diana, Princess of Wales and the young king crowned at the end of the series would be King William V. The Princess Charlotte character was probably based on Sarah, Duchess of York although in the TV series she was the king's sister, rather than sister in law. (I thought Princess Charlotte was a great character).

I loved it!

I noticed that they mentioned they were Windsors, but I don't recall where (I am watching on Acorn tv in January 2014, which for all I know could be a different cut)

The cut I just watched had no reference to any family name, but Windsor [Castle] was mentioned (i.e., one of the royals was there temporarily).

This thread puzzles me because it's asking a fact-based question about a fictional family. No one is asking, for example, whom the fictional prime minister succeeded. It's fiction, seemingly based in the present (the present when it was broadcast, 2008), so viewers are permitted to, or must, gloss over such details.
