Why a girl to play Dicky? Why not make the character female?

Why cast a girl to play Dicky? Why not make the character female? Would it have affected the story if the character was a daughter and not a son?

I never understood what reason was behind this casting decision . . . .

I cannot believe Dicky was played by a girl. If that's true, I was completely fooled, I had no idea...

I agree though, having the character actually BE a girl wouldn't have changed the story, IMO.

Fact of the matter is that the we all start as females, but a single chromosome change turns us male, so it's not that hard to make a pre-pubescent kid change sexes un noticeably.

So, was the really big girl was played by a man ?

Well that was quite obvious wasn't it? You could clearly tell it was a huge dude with a dubbed voice of a small girl.

I had no idea Dicky and Johnny were girls though...I mean, I did have a strange feeling that there's not something right about Johnny (too "pretty" for a boy somehow, no pedo) but still - fooled me.

Kudos mr. Chow.

I assume it came down to the fact that they hired the best person for the job, regardless of their gender.

The story was more about a father/son relationship, which on many levels is rather different to a father/daughter relationship.

It all worked very well I think.

Are you sure they were played by girls? A girl normally wouldn't have this much ear hair...

For one, having a girl character would take away from thet father son relationship. He is trying to moold his son into a honoable person, and it works better if it is his son.

Not to mention that "big girl" who likes him. That [art was really funny and would have worked if Dicky was a girl (then the girl would be a boy, and that would be funny).

I wouldn't be surprised if it was because they could pay a girl less

Just watch the special features. Stephen Chow explains it all......

And why not make it a girl? Things just fit better. The way he wrote it is the way he wanted it. Plus the oversized female classmate of his was a hilariously brilliant idea.

Yea, why not?
