Terrible.

This video was AWFUL. Basicaly, you take one pompous, snobby, chauvinist, arrogant british a-hole and let him talk nonsense about how european cars are superior in every imaginable way to their american counterparts. While some points are valid, the whole thing degenerates into rediculous U.S. bashing in the first 15 minutes and only gets worse as you go along. He basicaly sums it up in the first sentence actually - he hates Americans, he hates their culture and their awful living habits and doesn't want to have anything to do with them. Why are you making a show about American cars then??? Terrible, terrible waste of time, just skip this video, please.

He may be right, but the way he delivers it just reeks of chauvinism.

Have you ever watched Top Gear ?...Americans get off lightly, don't get Clarkson started on the French...or environmentalists....

Or the Spaniards!

I'm American... Take it all with a grain of salt. First, he IS funny and plays the part of a pompous Brit very well. The anti-American jabs are just things like "I hate their food" and he shows a picture of a chile dog stand... I mean, he's clearly being funny. The British aren't exactly known for contributing to world cuisine in any meaningful way, so just shake it off and laugh.

As for his car comparisons, they are entertaining but horrible choices. I mean, he pits a cheap, low-end "luxury" Chrysler against a high-end BMW in a drag race??? Who drag races luxury cars? The rest of his races are all at a European-style road track... how about we take some of those cars on an oval and see how it goes? Matching up a pickup truck against a fire-breathing go-cart is just silly. An off road race with a Cadillac and a Hummer 2 is also a joke - they share most of the same underpinnings... where's the Jeep? I mean, hello? The whole world probably thinks "Jeep" when they think about an American competitor to the Range Rover. I don't even want to get into pouring water into a beat old $20,000 Buick vs. a seemingly garage-kept $50,000 Jaguar. And he seems unaware that Harley makes sport bikes that aren't too bad.

Altogether, it was an entertaining video.

I completely agree with your post, MightyYar. It's nice to see someone not taking Clarkson totally seriously as so many mistakingly do. And yes, they should have used the Jeep in that off road race, at least Jeeps are designed for off-roading like the Range Rover and not the 'bling brigade' i.e. Hummer and Escalade. Clarkson is biased by nature though.

The one thing that annoyed me the most was when he raced a mustang against a real horse. He incorrectly stated that it was Mustang GT and V8 which it wasn't. It was the basic V6 model. which is completely different in suspension and about 100 hp.

An Oval? Seriously? That's not real racing it's just stupid the only reason to have an oval track in racing is so the audience in the stands can see the entire track, unless there is a crash it's boring.

reply

Yeah, an oval. I agree that the oval track is boring, and I much prefer a road course.

But there's no denying the popularity of oval racing in the US, and it seems silly to test cars built for the US market without at least a tip of the hat to an oval track.

Unless you are just trying to be funny and entertaining...
