Sang-jun: Bathroom scene answered! (Spoilers)

I have seen many people question the bathroom scene, asking why Han-na got together with Sang-jun after his cold-hearted comments. So here is my take:

Well my initial reaction was thinking that Sang-jun is a cold-hearted ********. That being said, after taking a step back and looking at the film as a whole, I realised that Sang-jun, in the bathroom scene, was simply not being himself. "Be yourself" is a message that is constantly brought up in the film. We all know Han-na had to learn the hard way, but what about Sang-jun? He was not himself because he was a pawn that his father uses. Like Han-na, Sang-jun had to go through a transformation, but not a physical one. Instead, it's psychological. Through Han-na, Sang-jun is able to realise the consequence of his actions under his father's rule. Once he realises that managing all these fake "stars" reflects the way his father controls him, he backs out (seen in the scene where he stands up to his father, the boss). That is when Sang-jun completes his transformation. We even see him admitting that he is an *beep* during his innocence line at the end. All in all, you could say that both Sang-jun and Han-na found themselves when they finally found each other.

Thoughts people?

A reply that is 2 years late. Sorry. :P

I just rewatch this movie after many years. You gave a good perspective on Sang-jun's mind. I think he 'brainwashed' by society that he should love someone hot and beauty. He did date that live with Ammy for awhile as shown in the dialogue in the bathroom where he asked her to pack. He didn't seem to like her personality at all. So, why he dated her in the first place? Was she really nice in the beginning but turn b!tchy later? So, maybe his mind was tune to the idea that 'he should be attracted to pretty girls'.

Watch the movie a second time years later, I can see that before that harsh bathroom dialogue, which made me doubt his affection, he really did seem to like Hannah. His action was spontaneous when he went to to hug Hannah after the Ammy's concert and him inviting her to his birthday dinner and he seem genuinely happy to see her when she arrived.

Btw, I think the big boss is not his father. He's just an important employee. The son if the big boss is that guy who is often beside Sang Jun. I think this made his confrontation with his boss even more courageous as his job is at stake. If he's the son, he can always be assured that he won't lost his job or become broke.

The men are both sons. In one scene Sang-Jun calls him big brother and the other complains that it is only 18 months. He always let his brother take the anger of the father, but this time he stood up for what he believed. I loved it :)

Korean guys address any other guys older than them as "hyung", literally meaning "big brother", regardless of their blood relations. I get why you would think like you did, though. =)
