La Vieja Angelica Rivera

I don't think 37 is OLD, but I do think an actress that looks her age, should play her age. True, this is the first day it's on here in the states, but I hope that they do a "time-warp" so that I will belive Gaviota is really her age.... If they wanted a 25 year old looking character, they should have gotten one that looks 25 (even if she was 40!). I am having a hard time believing that Gaviota is "spunky" like a dude or something, she just looks like an old actress trying to play young. BLECCH. I would have rather seen Ana Rojo play the lead (or Barbara Mori) instead of the hag they have on screen now. I think this novela might be SO BAD it's SO GOOD.

If you can read, my first sentence said that I don't think 37 is old, but it's the fact that she looks 37 and not like the age the character is supposed to be (18 or 25??). Eduardo might be 47, but he can pass for someone in his late twenties to mid-thirties, that's the difference. It's very hard for me to watch Angelica flit around on screen pretending she is 18 or whatever and doesn't look it. The point is, I wouldn't care if she WAS 60 years old and looked 45, if that's what the part called for. There's nothing wrong with playing a younger character - LOOKING young as well is what's hard. There are a lot of other actors that are older (that age well) that could have played the lead. Look at Ana Roja, she's only 4 years younger than Angelica, but on screen she could have totally played that part much better. At least HER crows feet and baggy eyes don't always show.

A lot of people on these message boards are going to have differing opinons. If you're just going to post rude comments or attack posters, please, at least, be coherent. Your last sentence didn't make sense.

I think that they picked the right actress. Of course she looks older than the usual main character, but nobody knows how old she is in this telenovela... I think she's great. I have seen her in another telenovela and she was the villain, but she had as much as character as La Gaviota. I think she's great in this role.

I think Ana Patricia Rojo has the right role in this telenovela. She looks really negative. I don't know if she's like taht in real life, but she does it really well. I can't her in another kind of role.

Barbara Mori is way too sexy for the role of La Gaviota. I have also seen her always in roles of capricious girls, always wanting to have what she wants the way she wants it and when she wants it. She wouldn't have been good in this role. Have you seen her in Rubi ? That's her kind of role for her ! I don't think she's really like that, in real life, but she has the physic to do it and she's a good actress.

Is really Eduardo Yáñez 47 years old ? I can't believe it ! He's so handsome, he reallly doesn't look like that !

I'm so with you on this one! It kinda pissed me off as well. I mean, i really like Angelica Rivera, but not for this role. Seriously, i thought Gaviota was 25 at most! ideally, i believed the character to be betweem 19-22....and Rodrigo about 25-27 or so.

they make a good onscreen couple, but i think it would have been better off had they gotten younger actors who could do the job.

Personally, I thought the same thing about Angelica in the beginning. I didn't know the age that Gaviota was supposed to have but knowing Mexican novelas I knew she wasn't supposed to be old...er. Anyways, I don't mind it now, I mean she plays her role really well and she really doesn't look 37 to me...she doesn't look 25 but she still looks pretty good. Also, I think that she plays Gaviota very nicely because Gaviota is such a spirited character and she portrays that really well. I really love her in this role and I don't think anyone could've done it better, especially not Ana Patricia Rojo because she doesn't look very spunky to me. And Barbara Mori...well maybe, but I think she might have been a little too sexy for the role, maybe not. In any case I like Angelica.

Okay 1st thing she is not OLD. 2nd Ana patricia rojo is younger than her & looks older plus in her 29yrs of experience hasnt done a leading role , with no kids. 3rd Barbara Mori cannot act & does not have any kids. 4th Angelica Rivera has 3 kids (11yrs old, 8yrs old, & a 2yr old) & looks damn good for a her age... a little wrinkle here & there covered with make up. Her character is very believable she is GAVIOTA. NO ONE ELSE COULD OF DONE SUCH A GREAT & BELIEVABLE JOB. And I leave you with this "LOOK AT THE RATINGS". They added 200 more episodes to the story because it beat out the other novelas ratings.

My bad she just had a baby in October & the novela started in January.

You don't think 37 is old yet you call Angelica a "hag" and old looking. You think Ana Rojo is younger looking????? she looks chunky and old to me. I understand you're just stating your opinion, but you don't have to call such an attractive woman a hag just because you'd rather see someone else play the part of Gaviota. And what are you anyway, 15????? You obviously don't know much about beauty.

Barbara Mori has like an 8 year old..

I agree with Martha 100 percent. 37 is a hag? Please, that's ridiculous. What does that make Eduardo Yanez-a viejito? Angelica Rivera is perfect for the role of Gaviota, she's done a wonderful job. I have pretty good vision and I don't see any wrinkles-and what difference does it make anyway? Yanez and Rivera are a perfect couple. The novela is one of the highest rated in Mexico in a long time, and for good reason. Ana Patricia Rojo would have been all wrong for the role of Gaviota-she's just right where she is. (And Martha, you're right-she is a bit chunky) The casting is perfect, they did a terrific job in selecting all the actors. I can't stand Julio Camejo, but that just goes to show what a good job he's doing in the role of Francisco. Aaron, Minerva, Isadora, Fedra, Francisco, Susie, Elvira-all villains, all extremely well-played. Daniela, James, Dona Pilar, Bruno, Avillaneyra-all super. A great novela, they don't make them this good very often.

Give me a really really Young actress with a lot of talent, because right now if you think about it there is none. Everybody is bashing the Muchachitas como tu girls. My guess is that, that is the only reason why they are going for older actors etc, so they can have a solid soap opera. Don't take me wrong there are some good young actresses, but just good, I do not think they can handle a story like this.

She is a good actress and all, but you all do know that the main reason why she starred in the novela is because she's married to the director, right?

reply

She is not married to the director. She is married to Jose Alberto Castro, a producer, who at the time was starting to produce "Palabra de Mujer" which is now airing in Mexico. She is a wonderful actress. She does look her age, but so do all the others. They are just wonderful, credible, experienced actors. That is why this novela has has so much success.
