Was the marraige over

Many marriages are like this in these countries [long distances]. She said she would not divorce him so they may have hooked up later in life or he may have started visiting her down the line. I wonder if it was sex with her and her lover or more of she saw a stronger man than her husband at the beginning. If it would have been sex I feel she would have divorced him so she could be with someone else. But there seemed to be her respecting him near the end. Any thoughts on how there marriage continued out there.
