Are you kidding me?

Unbelievable. What a big joke. These people are going straight to hell.

So I guess this means that anyone who disagrees with YOUR viewpoint is "going to hell." Well $#!t, anything that doesn't just glorify the heck out of your personal belief system should be BANNED!

Go reread the First Amendment, junior.

not exactly sport. I was only putting my thoughts on paper. Isnt that what boards are for. You got to admit that people who are going to see this movie are into some type of religion. Could be catholics, mormons, protestants, whatever. By the way, you can disagree with me all you want, I have no problem with that. You cant sell religion for your own personal gain. Common sense. Your swearing actually proves.....well, you'll get the picture...

reply

languagewiz, your IMDB username is all wrong. If you really knew language, you would see the irony in this documentary.

It's about consumerism, not religion. Duh.

i think its more the fact that this guy seems to be taking religion and turning it around to suit his protest.. (false prophit)

I do think the commercialisation of christmas is Excessive. (its not its true reason we have christmas.) but I feel the use of the religious message in this film just makes christians look stupid..

I did enjoy the film and it gave me a few laughs though!

I'm really confused by what you mean, and if you know what the film is even about. This is a film about de-commercializing Christmas and why it shouldn't be spent buying products, but with family. To disprove your point, I'm not religious and found the film very important. The issues presented are quite global, including the child workers in Asia making products for Wal-Mart, etc.

But maybe you know all this... your post is very vague.

reply

It's obvious lanuagewiz didn't actually see the film. He/she only read the synopsis and formed an opinion. This movie has obsolutely nothing to do with religion. I am not a religious person whatsoever and I went and saw it opening night.

I feel sorry for the people who don't get the message behind this movie.

reply

i don't believe in hell. maybe that's why I don't shop as much as overzealous religious freakos do....hmmm

reply

This isnt about believe in total. Its about giving something more valuable then gifts. In other words "love and peace". It doesnt matter what you believe, either your cristian or boedhist, in the end its all about love and living in peace with eachother.

Somehow most people think giving gifts is the same. Sadly it aint.

reply

My 2 cents worth... The movie would have been much better with more info and less Billy. I get the point about responsible shopping and the point that dollar amounts spent on gifts don't equate to amount of love. Neither can trinkets replace real love shown in time and effort spent with loved ones. I totally agree.

"Rev. Billy" though, was disturbing and offensive. His mocking of Christianity really bothered me. People have stood on street corners speaking their piece for centuries without pretending to be preachers. Even just the preacher bit wasn't that big a deal till he started in with mock prayers, pretended Spiritual works and even a baptism/dedication of a baby. His reaction to the prayer for the baby made him seem a bit delusional. Does he think he really is some sort of religious leader? When you watch him and the choir it does seem that this has become their substitute for a true relationship with Christ, which is just plain sad. I don't know these people personally though and their relationship with the Creator is between Him and them. I'm just commenting on what's on the video.

The movie makes some good points but as I said, in my opinion, it would have much better with more info and less "Rev. Billy" and his "church".

reply

It's called satire. People need to lighten up. He wasn't mocking Christianity, he was mocking ridiculous Fundie preachers...you know, the ones who tell you to send them money in order to be "Saved"?

Also who are you to make assumptions about the choir's "relationship w. Christ"? You DON'T know these people. Isn't NOT being materialistic a part of many religions, including Christianity? So aren't they, in fact, preaching part of the gospel?
