I really hate it when couples get together in one episode but then their relationship gets jeopardized the next. I think Mia and Jason look so cute. And when they spoke Chinese! That was adorable! I hope they stay together a bit longer.
I love the fact that some show is FINALLY having an Asian couple... or any Asian character that has lines, for that matter. Thank God.
However, I hated the Chinese because it was so random. The writers did not work it in well at all.. it was like "blah blah blah CHINESE". There was no point to that and I was actually offended by it.
Because it had no purpose. It was "english eglish english random chinese". It was so gratuitous. If they were going to incorproate Chinese, it should've made sense in the script. These are two characters who don't identify with their ethnicity... the whole "this is my first time dating an asian" thing, so I wouldn't expect them to break into Mandarin just randomly.

What about Lost for the past 4 years? Their Korean couple is one of the most interesting married couple stories on TV in my opinion.
Sadly, the actor who played Jack was TERRIBLE. Definitely not charismatic enough to be a charming brain surgeon (we could use McDreamy for this, haha, if only there's an Asian version of Patrick Dempsey)
you know, one person's treasure is another's poison, mcdreamy always seem too sleazy (just his looks) to me (Mr. Big too), then again, I don't like Meredith nor Carrie.
I am not usually attracted to Chineese/Japanese/Korean/Vietnamese Asian men, but I thought he was HOT. I think that they did by ending the relationship so soon was not good. He was very attractive.
But, his ethnic background means naught. These are American women, and it is obvious that Mia is not a "traditional" immigrant-type asian women, she is obviously born and bed in the USA. As such, why should anyone expect her to date any one ethnic background??
It is already become very common, especially in big cities, to see multi-ethnic mixed couples/families, so, imo, it is no big deal. 50 years from now, these discussions will not exist.
Also, Asian people have a very colonized mentality where they belief white society is superior to all others so before you comment that it's something "simple," do some research first.
Being ignorant *and* with conviction is dangerous.
That's odd. Asians think white people are better than them.....huh. Is it just american asians or like asians in all countries with little to no white people?! (i'm checking wikipedia)
Wow, that comment sounds very "model minority"-esque. It's somewhat insulting that one would presume the belief of white supremacy to be the mindset of Asians.
really? if you know so much about asian people, i'm sure you know of the ancient chinese beliefs that they live in a sacred land and everything beyond their borders inhabited by dishonorable barbarians. i've spoken to a chinese guy who still has a lot of contact to his home country as well as someone who spent a few months in china and both confirm that while chinese people might be friendly to foreigners, many still seem to hold on to the belief that foreigners are... well... i guess one could say "scum"?
i don't know about other countries but seeing as you're speaking of "asia" and china is the biggest part of it...
oh well... don't get so worked up about it... there are irrational beliefs that are based on hundreds of years of manipulation and tradition in most countries.
"dublin"... weren't there people fighting each other (or do they still?) in ireland just because they had different religious beliefs? don't you think that people of the one group would call members of the other "scum" as well?
or take the middle-east with their radical religions... i won't even say more about that one.
and i'm betting that sometime in the near future we will see a lot of "christian violence" coming from the usa.
as for the "bad things" the chinese did that you mentioned. well... it's very logical, really... if you think that someone else is scum... why wouldn't you take advantage of them in every possible way? maybe if you were a very idealistic person but the problem is - almost nobody is.
wrong, asians actually see themselves as being superior to whites in many ways. asians in the US, for example, pride themselves on how they are more educated and successful than the average white, also some are better looking than most whites.
it's usually the very poor asians in asian countries who aspire to move to a wealthier country that may look up to whites.
actually, asian females with white men isn't common in media either. even when it does occur, the asian female is usually unattractive, for some reason. that's also how it's like in real life; the most attractive asian women seem to date within their own race.
Sorry, but I like Jack (is that his name) the guy from the first episode. I dunno why haha; I guess it's cause he reminds me of Hugh Dancy and I love Hugh Dancy. =) But I do like the Jason guy and the Asian couple thing. Though I ahve to point out that on Heroes there was an Asian couple for about two seconds (which I hope the go more into, but probably not) when they kissed... That's a whole nother story though. Haha
