DublinDiva, well said!
I used to do the same thing for hair and nails, and most beauty schools do offer 1 or 2 days a week where the students allow patrons to come in for next to nothing in regards to price. I also agree with finding designer style on a not-so designer budget.
Susico, if you have a Nordstrom's RACK or Loehmanns these are good places to catch major steels too, you just have to be willing to search the racks. I also have found lately that Macy's (yes I really said Macy's) has been having some amazing sales over the last month. I just picked up 2 very nice coats (Marc Jacobs full length black wool/cashmere blend, and Calvin Klein cream wool 3/4 length coat) for $106.00 (that was for both coats they were each originally $249.99, marked down to $100, and then they were doing buy one get one free for coats of equal or lesser value, so basically that is $500 dollars worth of coats for $100). They just did the same thing with shoes, yesterday I splurged on 7 pairs of shoes including 2 pairs of boots for $190.00. I know that sounds pricey, but, they were all high quality designer shoes at a fraction of the original price since the stores are well into spring and summer seasons for clothing/shoes. The boots were BCBG and Michael Kors originally priced at $149 each, and the shoes ranged from $69 to $129 originally, marked down to $19.99. I was able to get several nice quality designers, (Marc Fischer, BCBG, Enzo Angiolini, Carlos by Carlos Santana, Michael Kors and Via Spiga) for a fraction of the price. I love shoes (everyone has an over indulgent habit, this is mine) so I may have gone a little over board, but when you think about the fact that these came up to 786.52 before the sales lady applied the discounts knocking them down to $190, that is an amazing buy, especially for the current styles. I have found if you do 1 or 2 big buys like this twice a year (fall & spring) you generally spend so much less on both classics and trend styles (that's the key to great style, you build your wadrobe with several classic pieces and mix in some more trendy pieces or personal style pieces, this gives you a lot of variety and a lot of different looks so. Also, remember to try and pick well made pieces for your classics as they can last you a several years). Good style doesn't have to kill your budget, you just gotta keep your eyes peeled and know where and when to shop. I hope this helped :)
