This movie only made $50 million

Why do people bash this movie because it "only" made $50 million?

I heard the budget was $13 million?

Now, no one will ever acuse me of being mathematically gifted, but damn you folks saying this must have some high standards.

I would much rather spend $13mil and gross $50 million than invest $100 million and gross $107 million. (I just pulled those last two numbers out of the air- not related to a specific movie)

But that's just me...

So in other words, it still made a decent profit. Don't forget that it only had a 4 to 6 week run at the movies. I believe a lot of other movies run longer.

Yeah, I think it made a nice profit. Didn't know it only ran 4-6 weeks, which makes it even more impressive.

Actually, a budget of $100 million and a gross of $107 million sounds considerably close to everyone's favorite "Batman" movie:

But seriously, "This Christmas" made straight up bank at the box office. Seriously, to be in the black after only one weekend in theaters? That's impressive. Plus, you have to think that there were no expectations for this film to do even half as well, so to gross more than stuff like "Speed Racer" and the last "Rambo" movie (I'm just comparing grosses, not popularity here), that's quite awesome. Good for them. Plus I just finished watching this movie & I enjoyed it a lot so at least it was something like this succeeding than another "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes Stereotypical Black Grandmother on Your Ass".

They shoud be doing well with DVD sales too.

Have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Our theater never even played this movie. =(

thats also another point about this movies gross. it dident get a mjor release. so the fact that it made 50mil and prolly was relased at half the theatres of some major movie means it made more profit for the producers and creaters. the back end is much more when you dont relases it to so many other places cause that cost money to have a major release.

Well,in the 70s you had low budget movies featuring
mostly black actors that made alot of money like Shaft
or Super fly.

Some were pretty awful but black people
were eating it up anyway.

For me,Tyler Perry movies or movies like this are
continuing the tradition.

It's certainly not everybody's cup of tea
but there's a public for this stuff out there.

I find it strange that Tyler Perry seems to
think that alot of his public is in the christian
community.

I just don't feel that Jesus would approve of
a man dressing up as a woman!

and if you cast beyonce in your movie, you might make more money than just 6 to 8 weeks?

When I looked at the earnings for this movie ... it showed several amounts for November 2007 through January 2008. So I wondered if those are cumulative totals for that time period ... or are we supposed to add the amounts together. But if this movie did indeed gross $50 Million I guess the totals are cumulative. Doesn't sound like a bad percentage gross to me ... they netted over twice as much as it cost to make. Sounds like a hit to me and I really enjoyed the movie.
