Ironically I found it funny how Q was acting shocked at the news of Joe living there when he obviously questioned why Joe Black was in the garage looking for something. That should have been hint enough but he accepted the whole 'Christmas lights' bit. Or he knew even then but just wanted to stay in the closet about his mother moving on w/ another man.
Especially since Q knew to go grab Joe's items near the end of the movie.
