The Glitches in the Darkness.... And Their Cures

The major glitches in "The Darkness" are enough to wipe out even the best game file. Unfortuneately as 2K Games and TAKE 2 don't seem to care enough to put out a patch, this means we are forced to RESTART from an earlier save to bypass the glitch. Sometimes without proper knowledge it's too little too late, take heed and follow the advice for these or you'll be out of luck come games end. These are the glitches.... In the Darkness...:

(1)
Name: Mother of God Glitch
Location: Chapter 5 (Loading Screen Glitch)
Shows As: During Chapter 5, Vinnie tells you to go visit Aunt Sara and Butcher in Lower East Side. When you arrive and head out of the subway, a cutscene plays. Jackie will begin talking, and say something to the effect of Butcher and Aunt Sara wanted to see Paulie's ass on a plate. The cutscene usually freezes here and the game will go no farther. This is also known as the "Ass Glitch" for this reason.
Reason: According to 2K Games, and Take 2, this is a software glitch that manifests from a corrupted save file.
How To Fix It: There are a few ways to fix this glitch.
[1] If you're lucky enough, do NOT complete the second "Harmonica Side-Quest". Play through the game without doing this achievement and you will be saved from the freeze.
[2] If you were unlucky and played through the game after DOING the "Harmonica Side-Quest", you must restart your game from the beginning of CHAPTER 3 and play through all the way back until CHAPTER 5. This will reset the Checkpoint data and remove the knowledge that you did the HARMONICA 2 Side-Quest. Annoying, especially if you were playing for HARD or NORMAL.
[3] Some people have stated that if you complete the remaining side-quests, the problem will alleviate itself. This works apparently better on the PS3 version.
System?: According to players this glitch is present on both the PS3 and the XBOX 360. Though it is more common for 360 owners.

(2)
Name: Normal/Hard Mode Achievement Glitch
Location: End of the Game [Which Sucks]
Shows As: Not getting the achievement for beating the game on NORMAL or HARD Mode on the XBOX 360 version.
Reason: For some reason, the game has a tendency to switch between difficulties at random. It's a software problem. You could choose hard and the game might set itself to EASY at some point. Unfortuneately since you don't know WHEN it did it, this means whole chapters could've been played on EASY or NORMAL.
How To Fix It: Unfortuneately, there is no way to actually FIX this glitch. There is only a way to ensure you get the achievement. To alleviate the problem, the player must go through the game CHAPTER by CHAPTER [playing each one in a full sitting] on the difficulty of their choice. The game will save it and lock in the mode as completed for that chapter. Tedious and time consuming, it's the only known method to get the achievements for HARD mode. Some games have the problem and some don't, all copies have the glitch.
System?: XBOX 360 only, as the PS3 doesn't have Achievements.

(3)
Name: Vanishing Weapon/Vanishing Darkness Hell Glitch
Location: Chapter 2
Shows As: Oddly enough this happens to some and not to others. During the first trip to Hell, an entire portion of the level is invisible. The wall for the area is missing. It's halfway through the first half of the level on the way to the trenches. Unfortuneately it's a section that must be passed through. The character CAN pass through it into the corresponding area, but their weapons and the Darkness will actually VANISH. Another odd factor for this glitch, only Jackie can enter the invisible wall... Creeping Darkness cannot, yet normally this area is open to both.
How To Fix It: Normally resetting the last checkpoint will fix it. It seems to be a programming glitch and not a software one. These are called "lazy patches" and happen when a game is rushed through a porting process.
System?: More often it shows on the Playstation 3 version [as that was ported after the 360 version was completed. However it occasionally rears it's head in the 360 version as well.

(4)
Name: Coin Toss Silence Glitch
Location: Chapter 3. Anytime after the initial visit to Fulton Street station.
Shows As: Talking to old lady Warburton activates the Dare sub-mission wherein she throws coins into the tracks and you must gather them lickity split. The quest will work fine unless [after activating it for the first time] you leave the area or get on another train. Most who return will find Warburton no longer speaks to them or acknowledges them. A key componant of this glitch is the "Dare" quest remains in the "Active Mission" section of the journal for the remainder of the game.
How to Fix It: Simply reload Chapter 3, and do the quest until you complete it. There's no other way to fix it. For some reason after you leave Fulton St. Station, the game glitches into thinking it's the next Chapter and the quest has been closed off. The quest is easy though so it's not a hassle to complete it.
System?: Mainly noticed on the XBOX 360 version, this could be because of the HEART OF GOLD achievement and people attempting to unlock it. Some have noted it on the PS3 version as well however.

(5)
Name: Accidental Assasination Glitch AKA Briefcase Switch Glitch
Location: Chapter 5. During the mission given by Scardina for Jackie to switch out a briefcase of drugs for one with fake stuff in it.
Shows As: This glitch is odd. And it only activates [normally] if the Scardina side-quest is the last one completed. The sub-mission goes fine until Jackie switches the case, at which point... Noses [the man carrying the drugs] will suddenly drop dead on the spot as if he's been shot. This is NOT normal as obviously you can't kill anyone on the subway hub levels. An option to DEVOUR HEART is also accesible but trying it gets no reaction from The Darkness. This could simply be because they used a normal character model for Noses and the wrong programming spikes it's death animation when the perimeters are met. Who knows...
How to Fix It: It doesn't need fixing. It doesn't affect your sub-mission, it's just rather odd how it happens is all. If you are really worried about it though, simply do this submission second to last, and not last. That should keep it from happening.
System?: PS3 seems to suffer this one the most, but 360 owners can look forward to it as well.

(6)
Name: The Infamous Floating Car of Death Glitch
Location: Anywhere there's a car that can be lifted by Darkness Arm.
Shows As: If you use the Darkness Arm on any car, 9 times out of 10, you can lift it. If you throw it that's cool too. But if you kill people with it, the game will do an odd glitch, killing the people yet freezing the car in dead air in the area of impact. It just sits there, floating eerily.
How to Fix It: Use Darkness Arm to smack it and it'll come down, if you don't it'll just hover there for the rest of the Chapter, no matter how many times you come back from the subway hub area.
System?: Highly common in the PS3 version, the XBOX 360 seems to have this problem most during the Chinatown area with the mob cars, and during the Vinnie mission to assasinate the gang with the SUV blasting loud music.

(7)
Name: Never-Vanish Body Glitch
Location: Any city area where there are dead Franchetti crime syndicate bodies you've left around after a massacre.
Shows As: This is the most often encountered glitch. When you kill someone, often their body will stay there for the remainder of the game unless you reload the chapter. It's rather odd as after clearing that part of the city, normal folks will wander around talking, completely ignoring the decomposing corpse next to them or laying out in the center of the street.
How to Fix It: It's not a threat, simply reload the chapter in which you killed the person, usually the same thing will happen if you kill them again though. This is one of those game bugs that probably arose from bad Character Animation mapping.
System?: PS3 and 360's New Yorkers often find themselves walking by corpses only to talk about Flying Cars among other daily chit-chat. It must be wonderful to be so aloof.

I wasn't aware the PS3 version got a Trophy update either, though I did write this post back in 2007 which could be why it states the PS3 hasn't any achievements for the game.
