Gary Sinise bashes De Palma and 'Redacted'

I want to state, first and foremost, that Gary Sinise is a great actor. I've always been a fan. That being said, everything he's said about Brian De Palma and Redacted makes me want to pull my eyes out. He hasn't even SEEN the film yet and yet he's already made his mind on it? He's doing the exact same thing Bill O'Reilly did. Shame on him.

Actor Gary Sinise has accused Brian De Palma, who directed him in Mission to Mars and Snake Eyes, of pursuing a political agenda with De Palma's award-winning 2007 drama Redacted, based on the al-Mahmudiyah crimes involving six soldiers who were convicted of raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killing her family. (The film performed poorly at the box office.) "There are 150,000 people serving honorably, but Brian De Palma didn't care to show those stories," Sinise told today's (Tuesday) Chicago Tribune. The al-Mahmudiyah incident, he maintained, was "one particular, horrible episode that happened by, clearly, some criminals who happen to be in the American military." Although acknowledging that he himself had not seen the film, Sinise said that he had concluded that De Palma had intended to create anti-war propaganda with it. "I knew he had a very political agenda with making that film to make the American military look really, really horrible. ... Brian De Palma hates the American military," he said. De Palma declined to respond. Sinise himself has exec-produced his own Iraq war film, a documentary called Brothers at War due to open on Friday. "This movie is not going to be your typical blood-and-guts, negative, depressing thing about Iraq," Sinise said.

"What I want to know is how we're going to stay alive this winter."

Yeah, i know what you mean.

I think Sean Penn is in an acting class all by himself, he's that talented. Yet, he shoots his mouth off in public without even knowing what he's talking about! Kissing up to a foriegn dictator!

It's disgusting!!!!!

reply

Sean Penn? What are you talking about? Sean Penn hasn't ever said anything about Redacted; this is Gary Sinise we're discussing here.

"What I want to know is how we're going to stay alive this winter."

Who are you telling to "shut up"? There seems to be a huge failure to communicate going on in this thread.

There have not been many movies made about Iraq (non documentaries, at least).
Gary Sinise wants to see a Platoon-like movie about Iraq? Wait a few years. DePalma made an effective film about a horrible incident in Iraq, and two psychotic American soldiers were involved. The rest of the soldiers were honorable. Sinise should see the film before calling DePalma "one who hates the American military."

Comparisons to O'Reilly apply.

Dude means nice guy. Dude means a regular sort of person.

Wow, poor Gary makes himself look like an idiot. He hasn't seen the film, yet he KNOWS that it's anti-American military? And he knows that De Palma hates the American military?

Seriously, what a dumb thing to say Gary.

De Palma isn't interesting in making the US miletery look bad,he simply states that the US shouldn't been there in the first place! His 2 "war"movies Casualties of war and Redacted are about good man and bad man in a war that shoulnd't be.Bad soldiers will like to kill, rape ect, good soldiers will be haunted for the rest of there lives of the horror they have witnesed. It is the American politics that are f"cked, the new Roman empire, the world police but in the end it's all about money and power. You have good and bad in every country, religion, army, nation and THAT is what a great artist like De Palma is doing,so SInise is not only a limited actor but also a dumbas.

"This movie is not going to be your typical blood-and-guts, negative, depressing thing about Iraq," Sinise said.

It's going to be the light and fluffy side of things?
