Close, but no cigar

Well I guess I'll be the only one to post on here.

What I thought of the movie:
Great concept, good premise, but midway through the story just falls flat. The plot never really gets anywhere, and it becomes needlessly convoluted. It may fare as a good set up or prequel to the actual movie, but I don't think it was really strong enough to stand on its own. The last 5-10 minutes of the movie felt like the movie was finally starting to kick back up, but then it ends and we are left a little unsatisfied.

Muoi doesn't really stand out as a true villain because the writers tried to literally mirror her story with one of the main actresses. We get a brief glimpse into what happened to her that caused the curse, but there is very little insight into her life.

All in all, it was a good effort, but the thrills were minimal and the story just needed a little more focus.

6/10

Because Muoi is not a villain she is a vengeful spirit, and what you call convoluted I would call developed. Muoi's upbringing is not necessary to tell her story and would actually only serve to dilute her presence in the film.

It also seemed to borrow a lot from Arang (2006), and Shutter (2004).
