7.9 rating, really?

That is preposterous considering how rare it is for a movie to reach 7.9 on imdb. It's a ridiculously high rating for such a dumb, generic, self-serious movie that is watchable but not very good. Seriously, how did this happen? Did Taken fans use social media to spam the site with perfect ratings?

This movie wasn't liked for its complexity or originality, which it had none of, but rather for its emotional impact. I can tell you, people got involved in this movie because you know it's something that happens in the real world, and that's happening right now, while we're on a message board, victims of trafficking are being abused somewhere sadly.
By watching this movie you want to see every trafficker in it get killed brutally, and it's satisfying to watch. The Romans back in the day had a saying: give the audiences food and have them watch blood and gore, and they'll be content.
I hate to say it, but there's some truth in that.

and Linda Hamilton are the best sci-fi heroines.

I don't really get the "emotional" part of this, the movie is too ridiculous to be emotionally invested in. For such a serious subject matter, it failed to subvert itself from the same overused conventions in every other action movie. I'm not saying it's a terrible movie, but it's nothing more than another action blockbuster IMO.

It is another action blockbuster, but one that has good action scenes and an awesome main character. It is better directed than most action movies today.

You overintellectualize. If one relaxes into this movie, it does reach those of us who may have children, who work with teens, and/or are human. Stop the overthink and open your heart: the story could happen to your friend, family, and/or a loved one. It's brutal & suspenseful & Neeson is believable as the ex-CIA very present, very focused efficient Dad.

This isn't a masterpiece of artistry, nor does it pretend to be. You're watching the wrong movie if that's what you expect. It is, however, a well-paced, suspenseful thriller with acceptable performances, script, and authentic-seeming fight sequences, Paris street scenes, and a contemporary theme. It entertains & that's good enough for me.

rating here is very dumb. or people who rated very dumb. Did anybody see famous movie rated 10??? well if you have rating with number 10 why no good movie rated 10 at all.

reply

I have to agree. I liked this film but 7.9 is way too high IMO. Especially since there are so many better films out there that aren't rated as high.

I wouldn't call evil dead a better movie.

The rating should be higher. 9 at least. This is the best movie ever made. EVER.

I completely agree with sir. THE BEST ACTION MOVIE EVER MADE.

Completely agree. It's like Commando, except it doesn't have Arnie or that many cheesy moments, which is what makes it sorta watchable.

The action scenes were pretty good, but man... it lacks everything else. Still a very crappy movie.

The pop star ending thing nearly made me slit my wrists.
