It's all that stupid mom's fault

Seriously, am I the only one who was pissed off with the mom ever since she showed up in the movie? Yea yea I understand that this is just a movie, its just a story, characters are not real, and it's not really all that realistic but wtf! She had all that attitude about Liam Neeson (whose character in the movie was the former *beep* ex-husband) not being ok with the daughter going to Europe...but look at everything that happened to Kim. and where was the *beep* gratitude at the end? Fathers dont ever get enough credit as parents the way mothers do in the media.

(Btw only look at the FIRST movie if you plan on state your opinion)

I wanted to pistol whip that mother so bad. What a massive c|unt.

Who the heck would allow a 17 year-old go overseas to follow a band around? Personally, the girl should have waited until she was legally an adult to go do stupid things like that. That's not worth signing over permission. Obviously the girl was allowed free reign to do whatever she wanted since the father was more or less not in the picture. That free reign bit her in the behind, though.

He should have stuck to his guns the first time around. He knew something was up, but he thought he was getting an 'in' to his teenage daughter's life by allowing her to go.

Perry: "You, stop multiplying!"

Lenny needed a good slap from Neeson several occasions.

When searching Kim's bedroom he should have rubbed it into the bitch's face about how his skills were now NEEDED!

reply

Oh, sure, vindictive "I told you so"s are totally the first place anyones mind would go when their daughter has just been abducted, may or may not currently be alive, and probably won't be alive for too much longer. No no, take your time, be as petty as you need to be.

reply

Actually no, it was Amanda's fault for leading the kidnappers to their apartment and telling them which floor they were on and that they'd be alone, if she hadn't given him all that information then the movie would've been this.

Kim and Amanda go to Paris, travels around to U2 concerts, gets on a plane for home, roll credits please.

reply

Let me just say Lenny was a real bitch and Kim was a brat,Bryan is telling them how dangerous Europe can be for two teenage girls going unsupervised,Kim was just crying that she could not go.You are right Amanda is at fault, but so are Lenny and Kim for lying to Bryan. What Mother would let their teenage daughter travel around Europe unsupervised? Amanda said she had family in Europe but i doubt Lenny even talked to anybody on the phone and just took her word for it since she is such an angel. Even if Amanda did not give anybody their info they still could have been kidnapped

I use to own this town Now my life's been turned upside down Just a phase I'm going through

It's still the mother's fault for allowing two immature and irresponsible kids to go to Europe alone by following a rock band. The mom must've met Amanda, if she hadn't, she should've. Then she would've known what kind of friend Amanda was, a bad influence. And stupid enough to give her address and let a stranger know 2 young girls were alone in Paris.

The movie would have been so much better if right after he killed the sheik, he would have slapped that lyin ass deceitful bitch to the floor and asked "do you have any idea how many men I've had to kill in the last 48 hours because of you?!" Then slapped her again. Then punched her mother in the mouth at the airport.

It was her friend who lied, not her. She had no idea the cousins were not there.

Have you even seen the movie?

Wonderfully said. I'm still laughing. Well done.

Gotta love that victim blaming.

The part that got me was how Lenore and Kim conspired to convince him to sign that release that allowed her to leave the country. They knew from the start that her trip was to follow U2 around Europe but told him something completely different yet, when he still refused to sign, Lenore turned on him like a jackal and called him every bad thing she could think of as Kim ran off in tears.

That entire trip was based on a stupendous lie and it was faulty thinking that led to Kim having a friend such as Amanda, a mom who didn't see right through what kind of girl Amanda was, and the entire ordeal where Amanda led her into being taken, in the first place.

Neeson's character was the only one who had a practical outlook on the entire situation. Though, he didn't see the outcome coming, he was right about reasons why restraint should have been practiced. He was a bit maniacal but, considering the events that took place, that made him the most level headed person in the entire movie.

I have something to say; It's better to burn out, than to fade away!!!

It is Lenny's fault, more so than Amanda. I think all teens should go to Europe, but under 18, it should most definitely be with a parent.

I must say, Maggie was 25 when she did that film, but she definitely played a teen well.

Be sure to proof your posts to see if you any words out

A few other movies seem to have followed this cliche of leading man/father post-divorce trying to help his kids meanwhile demeaningly berated and verbally bashed by b*tchy ex-wife who has picked up a "superior" boyfriend/husband-to-be. Examples: The War of the Worlds (remake), The Weather Man, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012. In many (IMDB) cases male viewers want to "slap" her silly but the guy just sits there and takes it on the chin like a spineless pussy, even if he turns out to have been doing the right thing for his estranged kids. "Taken" seems a classic example. The ex-wife was arrogant and condescending, having landed a rich guy who gives ponies for birthday presents, and ignorant when it came to sending their under-age attractive daughter on a flighty Eurotrip. The mother definitely needed a "slap" or at least a wakeup call, and was kind of lame even when the daughter was returned safely due to Dad's awesome skills. Small hug, now you can get a taxi home.

Stop talking about it like its a real film! ITS NOT! She is not a real character at all. There is nobody on earth like her. And even the few that are annoying biatches, they at least have a back story that makes them how they are. This film just didn't even bother with anything. They introduce this insane kunt of an ex wife with no explanation at all. It was only like 20 minutes in to the film when she says some cliche "your job was more important" or whatever and you realise, oh yeah.. they are doing the over worked male thing. But still, *beep*, at least give us some kind of reason to believe that.

It's like a school play. A bunch of 12 year olds who want to be in the movie business got together and decided that there needs to be some badass dude who has "military training and *beep* and is now a "bodyguard for famous singers or whatever" and the wife is "pissed off about him not being around enough or whatever". And they just threw it all together in 10 minutes. What a total piece of crap. Every single part of it was below amateurish. The word amateurish gives such a bad feeling, but actually, at least amateurs have spent some time studying stuff. They have been beginners and gone though all the "beginners guide to moviez" and "how to write a script in 24 hours" and whatnot. Amateurs are least at an amateur standard. Whoever wrote this film was just taking the piss.

reply

I thought Lenny acted the way she did because she married a rich man and forgot how to act like a real human being. I've seen it more than once. A working person comes into money and now can have anything they want 24 hours a day and people bend over backwards for then, then the first time someone says "No" to them about something they get totally bent out of shape and throw a fit like a toddler. That was Lenny in a nutshell. A spoiled rich *beep*

reply

That was my impression as well.

Um, yes there are women like her. As a matter of fact, a mother was arrested for killing her teenage daughter on Christmas day. There are all kinds of people in this world. A bitchy ex-wife isn't unheard of.

It's not a real film?

Well, the father was being a total idiot... Lots of people go to France without being abducted and sold into the sex trade. In fact France on the whole is safer than the US. The fact that he turned out to be right regarding the plot just simply meant that his character apparently knew about the unlikely plot ahead of time. Must have read the ridiculous script, LOL.

Note that there is an international human trafficking trade, but its mostly girls from poor countries that are exploited... not tourists from rich countries.

From what I've heard a man is more at risk from the sex trade in Paris. Apparently there's a common scam where a flirtatious lady will invite a man into a back alley bar for a drink, give him a beer, then charge him 600 Euros or even more (typically without even getting sex). I've heard a number of stories about this scam.

RIGOLETTO: I'm denied that common human right, to weep.

reply

There's more around than sex trafficking...and sending your teenage daughter around Europe alone isn't something people should do lightly, especially for someone with a background like his.

I also like how you seem to think that because something is commonly done this way in this country (according to your reliable sources no doubt), that this is the only potential way it could ever be, that nothing will change and of course that teenagers wouldn't be easy pray for the uncommon events that you seem a little vague on admitting actually happen.

reply

Getting charged for 600 euros without sex makes a guy more at risk in the sex trade industry than a young girl kidnapped, made into a junkie, prostituted, and made into a sex slave for her entire life?

reply

Blame culture much?

reply

What?

reply

The girls could have avoided it by "being safe". Their naivete (or stupidity) are largely to blame for it.

If they had been much more cautious - as teens are not wont to do - such things wouldn't have happened.

Still, if she had a sensible head on her shoulders, she would have been fine.

reply

I agree but what does that have to do with my post?

Western Europe is not a dangerous place like this movie makes it out to be. The most dangerous thing likely to happen to you is pickpocketing, or getting lightly beat up/mugged. But you'll only get beat up if you really attempt to, by going to some very shady neighbourhoods in late nights, despite warnings.

Even ex-Soviet countries can be safe, if you have half a brain about safety and common cons.
