What the *+#@*+ is wrong with you America??

The Office! (admittedly was great in it's first 3 seasons), Kath & Kim, and now THIS??
What's next? Black Books? Fawlty Towers? Monty Python even??
This is intelligent humour for people with brains. Stop tearing it apart with your spoonfed, nonsensical habit of destroying everything you set your hands on.
Come up with your own ideas and stop ripping off and destroying the greatest shows on earth, you ignorant, tiny minded, money-grubbing snobs!
Am looking forward to your 83rd season of Will & Grace or Survivor, and kicking it under the shelf at the video shop when i'm old and grey

Little Britain is "intelligent humour for people with brains"? Exactly which part (of the show and of the brain)...?

By the way, Will & Grace got cancelled.

The humor is fine... it's just too repetitive. Dog tells mommy to remove her dress, cross dressing man get's called out, gym guys brag about their heterosexuality while doing something gay with each other, grandma talks about her seedy past then chastises her grandson for having a seedy present, mother and daughter say they love each other more than cute things until the daughter says she loves her mom more than gay sex, juvenile delinquent tries to backpedal her way out of getting in trouble... so on. Are we missing something?

I agree 1000%. I don't know why they won't just run shows from other countries, rather than making crappy remakes. It's been over 50 years since Lucy and Des had to produce "I Love Lucy" on their own because all the studios said no-one would watch a show with a Cuban lead actor. Has Hollywood learned NOTHING?
You probably shouldn't answer that question.

Others, however, will call me the world's sexiest killing machine, who's fun at parties.

And another xD
And yes Little Britain has some very smart humour behind it. It's slapstick stupidity at eye-level but the believe it or not, there is behind-the-curtain humour. Something that british shows are built on, but i have yet to see frequent American sitcoms...
You may need to watch it a couple of times before it becomes apparent, same as any show or movie with hidden agendas. Red Dwarf, The Office and the IT Crowd are good examples. If you don't know what i;m talking about, then it'd be a waste of time explaining.
btw, sorry i didnt realise Will&Grace was cancelled, we're only just getting The Matrix on DVD over here next month :P

No, you're a fool

Much like Catherine Tate and My Family, Little Britain is merely bottom of the barrel material that the masses lap up becuase they aren't inteligent enough to look elsewhere

America were right to not turn on Little 'Pile Of *beep* Britain

I'm so embarrassed to be British sometimes. First of all we have Little Britain representing "the cream of British" comedy when it is obviously the biggest pile of steaming crap ever put on TV (the sketches are so horrible in the US version and pretty much everything post season 2 in the UK) and then there is some guy ranting about how its some sort of intellectual entertainment. Well news flash OP, this show sucks, the writing sucks, the accents suck and Walliams and Lucas have obviously become drunk on their own fame and riches and can't tell what is funny or not anymore.
So we have Little Britain as our best comedy show then? And Americans get 30Rock? I know which one I would choose!

I'm also British and I am embarrassed by this programme. I can't believe anyone would laugh at this childish drivel.

It's one joke repeated over and over. Create a situation and then say something inappropriate. A sniggering 12-year-old could write funnier sketches than this.

Exactly, OP get off your high horse, and stop claiming all British comedy is intelligent. Like American comedy, you guys can falter too, and like American comedy, you guys can also produce smart and witty shows. But to suggest that IT Crowd and Little Britain are good examples of intelligent British humour is ridiculous. Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, Arrested Development, The Office How I Met Your Mother, The Colbert Report etc. are all far more intelligent than any recent UK comedies with the exception of UK Office and Extras.

I fully agree that How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock and Arrested Development are all very good shows. There is intelligence built into it as well as witty humour that not many with an IQ under 100 would understand.
I also fully understand that this show is still written by the same guys. No arguement there. To be honest I've only seen the first season of Little Britain, and haven't been able to get my hands on the rest, so if you say it's rubbish, i can't argue that.
I never said it was THE BEST comedy Britain has to offer, don't exaggerate my statements.
My main point is that American comedy (and all entertainment for that matter) is a complete balls up. With a very few exceptions as in the first line of this post (and perhaps 2 or 3 more), it's all turned to brainless dribble. Although not a comedy, take I Am Legend as an example. They RUINED the story in exhange for spoonfeeding the American audience! My point is the writers need to come up with intelligence. Write your OWN ideas and make them worthhile.
Another example i used was Kath & Kim. It's Australian and to any other country, it simply wouldn't make sense, but it's a brilliant show. And now America's doing their own version of it. Get you OWN freakin ideas...
I conclude by stating that i am not actually British myself...ponder that while i go watch the next Ultimate show to be thieved by US primetime, Outrageous Fortune ;P

You mean like Law & Order: UK? Everyone "steals" show ideas.

Thank you! I was about to say the very same thing. No one was twisting David Walliams' or Matt Lucas' arm to put the show on here. They obviously wanted to and they're the ones to blame for it being so craptastic. If you wanna bitch about anyone, bitch about those two thinking they could make more money off a few mildly funny ideas across the pond.

reply

I don't agree with most of what you said, but I just have to say that last bit cracked me up. Intelligent humor... Computer says, "No!" *dies*

reply

My favorite is the accusation that it is the Americans ripping off this show. Walliams and Lucas are still British, correct? And, they are still running the show? Just checking...

reply

Total word! Last time I checked the LB USA was written by and starred the same damn people who did LB. So where's the rip off? The whole argument lost steam when comparing this to The Office or Kath and Kim. And for the record, I'm an America that prefers the original versions of both shows, UK and Australia respectively, thankyouverymuch!

If you're going to call us "Dumb Americans", present something other than a "dumb argument" to make your point!

Eh-eh-ehhhh!!!

reply

The American version of LB is brutally unfunny. By way of example, there is no reasonable circumstance by which Vicky Pollard would end up in America. Nor would anyone understand a word that she says if she did.

reply

Actually I'd love to know how much dough it took for the stars to do this trash!!! Yes it's awful mainly because they're still in Brit mode but everyone and everything else is American!! We already know we're not funny! Who besides me remembers the painfully unfunny American version of "Coupling" with show killer Paula Marshall?!

FYI to the person who mentioned Fawlty Towers. It was Americanized too. They actually had a nerve to re-do the very funny Fawlty Towers eisode about the Hotel Inspectors as the pilot episode. It was not funny at all.The show was called Amanda's (1983) and starred Beatrice Authur after she was on the groundbreaking show Maude and before Golden Girls fame. She owned the hotel with her brother.Yes it bombed.

It's Saks! There's a reason why Winona stole from there.Their stuff is gorgeous!
