I think gay rights groups are important because slowly their attacks on everything that's homophobic do change public perception and people eventually become less hateful and ignorant. But in this case they're obviously wrong. Little Britain, like Kids in the Hall before it, is about subversion, and it's probably one of the most joyously pro-gay shows I've ever seen. I haven't seen the US version, but I can't imagine that Matt Lucas suddenly became a self-loathing gay man. If the gay rights group had a brain it would realize that shows like Little Britain are a big reason why teenagers and college-aged straight guys become more accepting of gay people and gay ideas. They should be highlighting the fact that Lucas is gay, so that young people realize the people and the things they like are often created by people they may have uninformed prejudice towards.
I do find it quite laughable when one of the leads is openly gay and the other is regarded as being pretty much bi.
Maybe America still doesnt have a sense of humour?

I'm an openly gay male, and I just watched a couple skits from the british version, and I have to say I didn't think they were homophobic at all! In fact, I particularly like the "only gay in the village" skits. I don't see how this would offend anyone... what gay groups exactly are upset at the show.

This move just put the "West Hollywood Gay and Lesbian Alliance" one step closer to being the PETA of gay rights. I.e. an organization that looks good on the surface, but when you go deeper you find out it's not so much so.
