Flat, uninformative, not factual enough .. disappointing

I found this works as an entertaining, dramatic miniseries and that's about it.

However I had hoped viewing this series would provide some greater insight on timing of actions and mitigating circumstances with respect to the entire Iraq/U.S. conflict, and in particular UN intervention. Instead foreign policy, U.S. response and strategic insight were completely glossed over -- given transitional treatment at best. The character portrayals were very one-dimensional and so much creative license was taken with storyline development that it dripped with predictable soap opera type cheesiness.

Well acted for what it was, yes. But I walk away from this series having learned absolutely nothing about Iraq save the producers hate Saddam. Not that I expected anything less of them than hatred .. but geez, I sure did expect more.

I just caught a few minutes of this series now and it felt just like your average tv drama. It felt really scripted and for a subject such as this the dialogue should sound more realistic.

To be fair, if you are that concerned with what is known of the historical specifics, there are probably better places to look for it. I don't think this was meant to be something at that level. It wasn't great, but it was better than the old school movie of the week dramas that TV once offered for things like this.
