I was wondering about that. Surely Dora must be getting something out of this or else they would have sued right? It's clearly a copy.
shareNot quite in my opinion. There have been shows aimed to teach Chinese culture and language before such as Bao Bei the Panda, but apparently they have not been as successful as Kai Lan has been. The interactivity thing is also nothing new, I believe, although I could be mistaken, that the creators of Blues Clues came up with that, and that show aired for the first time about three to four years before Dora did.
I could of course go into specifics here, Kai Lan focuses on emotional issues, Dora on counting, shapes, numbers, etc but I seriously hope that isn't necessary. Considering the globalized world we live in today I'm pretty sure that we would have seen something like Kai Lan even if Dora never aired.
I just have to say that living in Las Vegas I feel as if Spanish is shoved down my kids throats. I'm so happy to see a show that teaches something other than Spanish. With Dora, Diego and Handy Manny its over kill. Nothing against the Spanish language, I just want my young children to be exposed to different cultures than what is in their immediate community.
