My two-year-old loves this show, particularly the emphasis on emotions. But I have trouble helping her say the Chinese words properly. I speak several languages but Mandarin isn't one of them! I wish they would provide some sort of phonetic pronunciation guide so we can help our kids say "Push" (which sounds to me like 'Lah'), or count to three, or even pronounce the grandfather's name.

They should have a karaoke type of thing at the bottom of the screen when they say a new word. have it spelled out and maybe even have it in chinese just below it. it would just help clear things up a little. plus be even more educational in some way for children learning to read. haha.
also, i think this is WAY better than Dora. Despite the similarities.

shareI actually agree with your idea! And I HATE these "language" shows. Well, not necessarily the fact that they exist, just how parents want to brag about it day in and day out (so its not really the show's fault!). But if I hear, "*MY* little boy counted to three in Spanish!" - "Oh yeah? My little Betsy knows ALL of her spanish colors!" - "Is that so? Well *MY* Joey ate some squash and said, 'Yumyumyumyum, delicioso!" - "YEAH? Well my 9 month old can conjugate verbs in the subjunctive!"
But when you meet these kids, they can't do any of this stuff in English. There's no harm in learning foreign vocabulary for fun, but when it delays their English skills, I cringe. But I'm an English enthusiast (the school subject - not as in "white power!"), so I'm really keen on seeing kids develop proper English grammar and pronunciation. Its awesome to see it learned early!
But back on topic, I would love to see a pronunciation guide because I don't know if what Kai Lan is saying is actually what I am hearing. Is grandpa's name pronounced, "Yeah Yeah?" Something sounds like "Woolite" in the opening credits. I don't know, something sounds like, "gung Woolite" or "come woolite!" I know she's not talking about laundry detergent!
That's "Gun Wo Lie" - "Follow me!" You'll have to get the tone right, though. That's the hard part.
