how does he really do it? can someone tell me? (spoiler alert)

subliminal messages certainly do work and business pay advertising agencies millions of dollars for this, but they do not work to a 100 percent degree. i am sure that darren brown wouldn't rely 100 percent on it to base the biggest and last trick on. someone could have went to the bathroom when he dropped a word, someone could have shaky hands and rip the wrong way so many ifs.

so how does he really do it? as he said it was inevitable and darren brown always uses misdirection, this time subliminal messagin. so if he misdirects you to that, what did he actually use to make those people choose what they did?

reply

I'm satisfied with his explanations. It's purely subliminal, and that's why it works. I don't think there's any other trickery involved. But that's just me.

And it's "Derren" not "Darren", though he used Darren early in his career!

reply

On watching it a couple of times, I'm convinced the whole Suggestion thing is exactly as you said - misdirection. The last trick is just a very long sequence of fairly simple forces.

Exactly!

It's mostly trickery!

Upon watching this show for the secnod time I found out one. Remember when he randomly picks out a woman to count buttons with? Well, she's a plant. Look closely and you can see she is counting more than two buttons at a time. at the beginning Derren makes a rough estimate and they count out aloud until they come close to that number, making sure they leave enough / extract enough until the final few. Very sly, but I noticed tyhis the second time around!

I wondered whether they were doing that but I didn't want to believe they'd be so cheap. It would explain Derren's asking her if she was a therapist when she came on stage as a little in-joke. And she did look like a therapist!

How do you like them apples?

reply

The woman is picked out by a different member of the audience throwing the monkey. She was not a stooge.

One thing he didn't mention was when the woman at the end was handing him the newspaper she handed him the right hand. Listen closely to what he is saying "Choose ... that feels right ..", also he said "al-right" alot.

reply

Wow, I didn't hear that! I knew he was messing with her at that time, but I missed that part.

I think he also purposefully told her to stop tearing when he knew that tearing more would tear influential.

Not that that makes me any less impressed. xD

He also made sounds with his jaw when he was stretching it supposedly due to the nail- another distraction.

reply

he explained how he made her think of page 14 in the daily mail, and how the other woman teared around influential, what i wanna know is how did he make the woman think of 7, it was the seventh piece of paper that had influential on but nowhere in the show did he say 7.
