Question about language

The way the kids speak to each other seems typical to me. The question I have is about the way the students address the teachers. Do students in Australia routinely tell staff to *beep* off? I assume this is exaggerated, but maybe that language isn't considered as problematic as it might be in a US school.

There may be a school where kids do that but I've never encountered one.

I choose to believe what I was programmed to believe

What I noticed was the teachers on the show were addressed 'Sir' and 'Miss'. This is, I believe, more of a Sydney thing. In Melbourne, where it was filmed (I can't remember if it was set there), high-school teachers are typically addressed as Mr. <INSERT SURNAME> and Ms. <INSERT SURNAME>.

I especially loved how Jonah and his boys would be disrespectful up to a point.

i.e. "*beep* OFF... MISS/SIR." lol.

reply

I doubt it. The only one that said that to the teachers was Jonah who it was shown didn't care able it or respect most figures of authority. The only teacher he clearly liked and had respect for was the Gumnutt (?) Cottage teacher and the only time he swore towards her was when he was frustrated at his own short comings (not being able to read).

None of the other students swore at the teachers. The only other instance I can think of is when Ja'mie and the girls were having that meeting when they fell out but none of them swore to the teacher they just swore at each other which the teacher shut down.

* didn't care about

Not didn't care able it. Bloody autocorrect.
