Who's in their 20's and can't relate to this show?

Post here and tell us your short story!

For one, they act like teenagers sharing a house!

Uh, that's how I act with my roommates... We're not grown-ups yet, and I refuse to admit that we are just yet.

reply

Why reply? You relate to this!

reply

I like to be annoying. And, yeah, I actually do relate to it in a bit.

reply

And you're a white girl who has study some art field, right? lol.

I am.....
I studied Advertising.
But, I don't relate to this at all. Any subject that is in the media is probably already passe to the people this show is targeted to. I mean, video blogs? Also the way they dress and act reminds me of an awful 90s movie. I even found those annoyingly melodramatic when I was 10. I think it's the narration too. It bothered me enough that I got on here to see other people's opinions.

I definitely don't relate to these characters. The first ep has set up the series for really annoying relationships...let's see, guy in love with best friend's g-friend, best friend of g-friend is in love with this same guy. Uh, this cliche not only shows a lack of creativity on the part of the writers (we seen this setup before) but a lack of creativity of these characters...there are millions of people out there! This isn't high school where there are only a couple of thousand people and you are stuck in your social stratum. Setting up tired relationships for the sake of angst is passe. Besides didn't angst go out in the 90s (when I was in hs). Oh, yeah, and I forgot about the drunk actress who gets her mojo at the end of the show while singing karaoke...blah...

The only thing mildly realistic about this show is the twentysomethings trying to find their way career-wise.

I'll give it another try Sunday and see if it gets any better/more relatable.

Actually, you won't.

There's also something called a "friends-only" or "private" post, which Herskovitz and Zwick obviously haven't heard of. I agree that this show would make a lot more sense if it were set in 1999.

If you guys check out Dylan's blog on the Quarterlife site (I only did so to give this show a fair chance), it's a lot more eloquent and age-appropriate than her ridiculously angsty video blog. She behaved more like a seventeen-year-old than a twenty-six year old. This may be the fault of the casting director.

I feel like this show was created as entertainment for adolescents and self-affirmation for the 30+ set. I just graduated from college last year, am going to be 23, and am admittedly going through my own quarter-life crisis, but I cannot relate to these characters AT ALL. AND I blog.

I had really high hopes for this show, as I am a 26 yr old art major graduate. But last nights episode was a let down. Why is Dylan so miserable? Her job doesn't seem to suck that bad. She's not writing but she's closer than alot of people. Real struggling writers struggle alot more than that. Another thing I find weird is that Dylan is already spelling out for us what happens in the first episode, wouldn't it be better to gradually find out who these characters are and they're relationships?

I think why people can't relate to these characters is b/c they are so cliche. What "My So Called Life" did so well was make their characters real by adding believeable issues to them. we all knew/were people like them. I think this show needs to capture young adults better, rather than trying to use less interesting versions of my so called life characters.

I agree. I was excited about this show, but it came off as really outdated and tired. Angst seemed cool in the 90's, but now it just seems annoying.

I liked Scott Foster though. I'd love to see him in more things.

Angst is making a comeback, baby!

I am defintely one who found last night's episode more than annoying.

I am 27 and see this show as quite lame. I was in high school when Dawson's Creek came out and that is what this show reminded me of Dawson's Creek except it sucks. The video blog aspect does seem kind of passe. The sharacters are irritating and unlikable. I really just wanted to smack Dylan upside the head and that blond girl at her job was right about changing the way she dresses. And then she tries to quote Marx or some politics about the Bourgeoisie in the last scene. I guess they are trying to make her look "cool" or realistic or something. It is just lame and it falls flat.

And don't even get me started on boy has crush on best friend's girlfriend while girlfriend's best friend has crush on boy, blah blah.

If immaturity and idiocy is what your twenties are suipposed to be about then I am glad mine are almost over.

My husband watched this with me and thought the blond girl's singing at the end was quite bad.

There is not one good thing I can say about last night's episode.

"I am a great supporter of sex before marriage. Otherwise I wouldn't have had sex at all."

Definitely cliched characters. Definitely annoying and badly written narration.

I don't blog and I'm big on privacy rather than over-sharing, so I can't relate to the blogging trend.

But the show still seems unrealistic to me. I can't imagine someone being oblivious to the natural repercussions of blogging intimate details (and insulting judgements) about your friends' personal lives. I can't stand Dylan's entitled "I can't help it, I'm a *writer*!" attitude. Uh, real writers use their imaginations and MAKE STUFF UP - unless you want to be a reporter or gossip columnist don't try to justify your actions that way...since when is blabbing about/badmouthing other people considered "expressing yourself" anyway?

The guy who plays Jed is the most likeable, but, no, I can't relate to anything really. I was hoping the show would have some smart things to say about the quarterlife crisis, especially regarding job-related angst. (I have no problem with angst as long as it's well written!) Hate these predictable love triangles/quadrangles.

Why aren't there any characters still living with their parents? It's pretty common nowadays (considering the lack of jobs and increasing rent)and would add more depth to the stories as those characters struggle to be independant all the while dealing with their overbearing parents.
