Questions

OK, so this game has been out for a while and I was wondering what people had to say about it. I've seen a few reviews on YouTube, and they're pretty mixed. But I haven't seen anything recent. There's a lot of people saying that it's getting patched up and improving, but has it? Also, one person mentioned that the players are typically fairly mean, which seems in keeping with the often ill mannered behavior I've seen in Trekies (I worked for years among them).

I guess what I want to know is:

1) is there any improvement on the exploration aspect, or is it still pretty much just 'blow stuff up and get exp?'

When I saw the previews of this game, they made it sound like it was going to be about exploring the Trek universe and meeting 'new civilizations' etc. Boldly going, as it were. But what it looks like is the skeleton of a typical, Everquest/World of Warcraft type game with a bunch of Trek graphics.

2) are there any good, grand stories?

3) how much player interaction is there and is it just bickering or asking for help in blowing stuff up? Or is there actual roleplaying?

4) what are your general feelings about the game?

5) and what are your top pros and cons?

Unfortunately, I never heard back from anyone. I've recently seen some more reviews and videos about Trek Online, and they seem to be mostly positive. There's a lot of talk about improvements to the game over its first year.

However, my above questions still stand.

In answer to your questions:

1) Exploration has become much more interesting with the diplomatic and relief missions, and there is still Blow em up action.

2) The weekly episodes are a whole lot of fun, and they are repeatable. I'm still finding new plot twists in them.

3) I roleplay with my fleet every day. It's not lame like WoW, either. Your average STO player is mature, educated and knowledgeable about the genre. Granted, you still get the occasional 12 year old troll, but as I said, it ain't WoW.

4) I love this game! I left WoW with a bad taste in my mouth, and STO was a much needed breath of fresh air. The online community is friendly and helpful, and the glaring bugs and spelling errors of a new game have (for the most part) been eliminated.

5) Pros: Helpful players, an ever increasing variety of game play, and I get to fly the Defiant!

Cons: A lack of online literature explaining game play, and the occasional bug. Logging off and back on seems to fix most of them.

Come join the game and have fun :)
