Is there a monthly fee like World of warcraft or is it free?

Yes, the game does have a monthly fee.

The full fee list is as follows (all in U.S. dollars):

1 month - 14.99
3 months - 41.97
6 months - 77.94
Lifetime* - 299.99

* = Lifetime subscriptions allow user to play without paying monthly subscription fees. Promotional discounts and features do not apply.

It gives the fees and conversion rates for the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Europe and Denmark.

Here in the UK it's 8.99 per month inclusive of VAT. Well worth it in my opinion.

Coming in 2011 Star Trek Online Play For Free.

Play as much as you like for as long as you like at no cost.

This game is now free-to-play, and it's great! If you're still interested, you should give it a try.
