The Old Guy

The old guy (this movie is not even good enough to warrant remembering character names) who is sniping the monsters from afar is eventually surrounded by the little buggers and it later cuts to a shot of him (presumably) dead with blood around him. Do the survivors even mention what happened to him or what a shame it is that he died? Or how about his noble sacrifice? Is his absence even remarked upon at the movie's ending? Or are the feelings of relief so gratifying that the characters can see it fit to ignore his demise?
