TV1 should re-run 'In Melbourne Tonight'

good luck getting 9 to let TV1 go through the dusty old boxes of IMT episodes. I've heard some pretty bad stuff about 9's treatment of classic archival stuff. Just ask Bob Phillips, who started a TV museum with stuff he found in 9's dumpster.

Most TV networks around the world are guilty of deleting stuff decades ago thinking it would be worthless. Many Pete 'n' Dud episodes for example are lost forever because the BBC wanted to save the space.

I'm glad that episodes of 'Countdown' survived and were run on ABC a few years ago. It was great watching them. they are time capsules of the music world for their era. They used to show them on Rage and displayed the original aired date at the bottom of the screen at the start of each episode.

reply

Yeah Rage does that every summer when they can't be bothered programming the show. It's good.

Molly Meldrum actually stole alot of the Countdown footage out of fear that the ABC would get rid of it... sometimes crime does pay

Really? It's disappointing networks don't understand the worth of some things. BBC and shows like Pete n Dud come to mind...
