That mother had no shame!!!

I could totally appreciate it for its emotional power and Monique's performance, but man, when I saw this scene for the 2nd time around... she was one ditzy broad! She gets on a roll, saying "You was born in Decembertime, around when Miss So-and-So died! You remember that, Precious?" Then Precious, with perfect deadpan delivery, says "I was born in November." Then this wacky, wacky person gives this a thought and then says "That's right, you're my Scorpio child! You have to watch out for Scorpios, they can be trouble!"

Basically the whole scene plays out this way. That mom did not have one clue and no shame. I kept waiting her to top her shamelessness and then when Mariah Carey asks "and whose fault was that?" and without missing a beat, crazy mother said "It's this bitch's fault!" She would have thrown her blind grandmother under a bus for an extra helping of Cheetos. Mommie Dearest had nothing on Monique.

As well as 'stealing my mans' - like *beep* SERIOUSLY! That was the line that got to me the most! He RAPED YOUR DAUGHTER and its HER fault?!

He started when she was a *beep* BABY and even then it was HER fault?!

Shes a disgrace to all of womenkind!!!

Ashmi any question

I wish Precious had kicked hee ass more. Make that bitch bleed more because, when she threw that baby across the room, I jumped off my couch with shock.

Let me preface my response by saying this in NO WAY excuses her actions...

Monique's character was severely mentally ill. Her speech is SUPER hard to follow and is very tangential. She had some personality disorders thrown in with what could be psychosis-the way in which she adheres to this delusion that her daughter seduced her man is extremely disturbing. She believes this falsehood wholeheartedly and it's devastating for Precious.

It was nice that Precious got out from under her abusive mother, wish she was able to sooner-so sad.

THANK YOU! and couple this with the fact that it takes place in the mid-late 80's where acs and child abuse detection and prevention were in its infancy.

I know a lot of people who when they have children young are still 'what about me? whose gonna love me??'come years later. they don't understand that when they decide to give birth to and raise the child/ren they are carrying...it is no longer about them. it hasn't been about them since they first decided to HAVE the baby/take care of it.

I was shocked when she would have sex with her boyfriend and precious is asleep next to them... he reaches over and start molesting precious.... and the mom asked [asked!!!!!] him to stop. erm... close your legs and knee him in the groin you moron! or at least, get yourself and your child away from him when you get a chance.

Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.
