Making a series into a movie, how does it work!!

First off just want to state I am a SG fan of all three series!!

When you turn a tv show into a movie what makes it different other than the time and script. What I mean is do they use better quality cameras to get that cinema effect. Does the lighting somehow change. You have more music?

Im talking maybe from a logistical standpoint. The sets are the same with new ones added. Mostly same characters. Im just curious what you do to differentiate the movie from the show!

Another question most of us that post are fans of the franchise. Do you think someone that had never before seen an episode, could they follow the story without some references? Would they be completely lost in the storyline. Some of us have the luxury of knowing the back story.

I enjoy the movie because it makes sense to me. Just like how you have to take Calc I before you take II. Is there anyone who watched this movie that hadnt seen the series?

I watched this movie after only prior seeing the original Stargate film (Extended Cut), SG-1: Children of the Gods (Final Cut), and Ark of Truth. And I really enjoyed it. Seems that such benefits afforded to the recent movies that aren't quite with the shows are more on subtle than drastic levels, as sets stay the same and special effects are still what we'd expect from the best season finale/premeir or two-part story. The subtle changes are more like switching from pure HD shooting back to 35mm film, orchestral music instead of all synth, much broader exterior shooting (Teal'c's hike in Ark of Truth, the Arctic scenes in Continuum after Sam and Cam leave Daniel). In their own ways though, both Ark of Truth and Continuum blow me away.

"You hear what happened to me last night?"
"You got lucky?"
"They put a tracer on me!"

They use 35mm film cameras instead of digital ones. The movies are also structured differently, an episode is five acts and a teaser, while a movie is three long acts.

the stargate movies had a budget that was 3-7 times bigger than any stargate episode. More money means more quality, especially when the sets and characters are already done.

so yeah, better cameras, better CGI, better music, more cameos are all likely things to happen when the budget is higher.

If you dont ask too many questions, anyone could watch this movie and enjoy it.
