Cam Mitchell in the 1930s

So after being a member of SG-1 for so long, visiting so many planets and witnessing all that he has witnessed, Cameron ends up living 20+ years in the first half of the 20th century with basically nothing to do but grow a beard and reminisce about his exciting past life that he is never going to be able to return to? All the while having all his friends killed or never born thus being completely alone?

Wow, talk about a downer...

I think Cam would be just fine. He seemed to be the only one of the three who readily adapted to civilian life in the alternate timeline. Daniel Jackson was still obsessing about his life as an archeologist, Samantha Carter was sharing awkward smiles with passersby and grumpily dropping boxes of cereal into her shopping cart, but Cam, he was happily working on his bitchin' muscle car and flirting with his hot neighbor.

Well, on that regard, two pairs of Sg1 people (except for Daniel Nr2) lived their livess, some partly, others fully, in ancient Egypt in Moebius.

I think Moebius and Continuum are to be regarded as adventures, stand-alone stories, rather than thought about too deeply. I mean in Moebius, there are ancient Egyptians speaking English and the whole rebellion that drove Ra away from Egypt was essentially caused by Daniel and the people from the second timeline, and all of that didn't have any effect in changing history?

The same can be thought with Continuum. There are at least two people on that ship , apart from Mitchell, that ran across the Jaffas and the stargate, and they just kept their mouths shut?

Better to enjoy it, rather than dwell on it.

The Moebius one was weak. After 8 years of escaping at death's door over 200 episodes the just roll over and die quietly in ancient Egypt. Wouldn't they find a way to get the guarded time machine craft or other way to escape?

I would love to know what Cam did for the 10 years in the meantime!

He would either come through the gate in Egypt (still buried or unburied) or the gate in Antarctica. The most likely scenario is coming through the unburied gate in Egypt, which would require a lot of explaining if there were witnesses, but would also provide the least amount problems. He could possible work on the dig itself, ingratiate himself with Catherine and her father, and help steer them towards using the Achilles to ship the Stargate to America.

What comes after the mission of killing Ba'al as he come through the gate? I don't know. He clearly didn't fight in WWII because there is no military record of him per General Landry. I think he'd be smart enough to lay low so as to not alter the timeline anymore than he already did. But I would think there would be more fallout from "altering" the timeline (let's be honest, he could never return it to the original timeline because of his prescience there) than just one photograph.

reply

The Landry that said there was no record was from the 'altered by Ba'al' time line... What indeed would be an interesting question as to what Cam did during those years after 1939, gladly he wasn't his own grandpa... Could have served and died in WWII under an assumed name, or became filthy rich so he could stay out of the timeline
But I was hoping that corrected timeline Cam somehow knew of an older granduncle who told him he would see the death of Ba'al, and would let Ba'al know that just before the needle went into his forehead.

Just rewatched this on HBO and it should have been much longer, at least the equivalent of 4/5 episodes instead of just two.

reply

Maybe after killing Ba'al, tsking the photo with his Grandpa, etc he disappeared a la 'Back to the Future' as the timeline was "repaired".
