I liked the show but I can see why it failed.

For whatever reason I just remembered I haven't seen this show in a while, so I came here to find it was cancelled. But the first thing that really grabbed me was that there weren't even 5 ratings for the show on the page so I couldn't even see what the voter average was. If not even 5 people took the time to vote on this show on IMDB, I'm guessing there was never much buzz for it.

I did like the show, and so did my dad. We would watch it every week. I guess we just forgot about it when Fox stopped advertising episodes. Fox has always been notorious for dropping shows quickly. Just think, if they had begun with that attitude, the whole network would have collapsed. It took Married With Children and Simpons (Fox's first couple hit shows) a couple whole seasons before they got popular.

Simpsons were popular since day 1. Their first season they were ranked #28.

The X-Files were ranked #102 their 1st year. Good thing they kept that going.

But when the Simpsons started, there were only 4 channels. 28 doesn't sound so good. Beverly Hillbillys was #1 back in its day.

More than 5 people voted. That's just the typical error that shows up when not enough votes have been given. It doesn't literally mean less than 5 people voted.

I remember it took MCM and The Simpsons a couple of years to get popular. I have noticed that sometimes Fox sort of sets up shows to fail. Back in the fall of 2005 Fox heavily promoted Prision Break but they didn't heavily promote Reunion. It made me mad because Prison Break was aired on the weekends on FX that fall while Reunion was preempted a few times and the episodes that aired were never rerun on FX. I think Fox does set up some shows to fail and New Amsterdam was one of them.

I also think that the writer's strike had some part in the failing of this show. People weren't use to watching new episodes during the winter of the strike so many people weren't interested... at least that's my opinion. I think the same thing happened for Moonlight and other new series this occurred this past season...
