I think EVA was 'The One'

I never thought that the doctor was "The One". I have
always thought Eva was. I bet if the series had not be
EFFING CANCELLED, then we would have eventually found
out that that it was meeting Eva that made his heart stop.
I mean, he had just met her right before he chased the
guy into the train station. Heavy sigh....I would have loved
to see it happen as the series progressed. Jerks!

I think so too. His heart attack thing was after meeting Eva it just didn't hit him right away.

Him getting with the doctor I think is what killed the show. It was great when he was going around working and looking for "the one" but the minute he just assumed the doctor was it they put them in a relationship and it went downhill.

She was boring and so was their short relationship.

I agree. Eva definitely seemed to have the deeper connection with him.

I liked him with the doctor and thought it was premature for him to just assume that she wasn't "the one" because he didn't immediately become mortal.

My thought on this is that the doctor could be the one but true love wasn't just going to be an instant thing. This would apply with Eva as well. If he had the heart problems because he had recently come into contact with someone who could be his true love then the fact that he didn't die should suggest that he has to do more than show up.

If the series had gone on I would have hoped that Eva wasn't the one, just as I was a little annoyed at how "Life" ended with the suggestion that the main character and his partner were in love with each other.

It'd be interesting to know if the creators of the show had something planned out because this show could have become really annoying if they kept trying to drag it out for years and years. You know, the constant "is she or isn't she". Especially if it kept hims switching back and forth between the same few love interests. It would have likely worked best running a couple of years and ending, or hitting a point where his romantic life took a back seat to the rest of the show until he is surprised by running into the right woman.

My money was on the Partner...

Until the Addition of Susan Misner as the new Boss

the Partner fits the Belligerent sexual tension/ Fan Shipping common to most Male/Female TV Partnerships

but Misner as a more recognizable character actress and given time could have launched similar 'ships'

also as being a familiar face (if not name) being 'the one' could fall under similar logic as picking the killer on Most CSI and Law and Order episodes based on the guest stars playing the suspects

I just watched all of the episodes again. I found it interesting that Omar is the first one to tell John to break it off with Sarah (the doctor) because she's obviously not the one. It seems to take Amsterdam a while to come around to the same conclusion but he could still be in error because he wasn't mortal.

The show could have easily kept her permanently out of the picture when she left at the end of the last episode. She could also have been back, but I figure that if she was back at all it would either be randomly (and limited) to mess things up or it needs to be some big deal where she finally uses that doctor's brain of her's to really look into John and then she's the one doing the romantic pursuit. Okay, she didn't find squat about him on Google, but there was all sorts of medical stuff going on with him that was not normal. He died twice in front of her. Including recovering enough from a bullet through the heart in a week to be up and running around. How the heck doesn't that make her more suspicious and curious? Just doing a simple blood test or dna test comparing John and Omar should just add fuel to the fire.

Anyway, I think what would have turned out to be an issue is that for John to find the one he had to find her without worrying about whether he found her, or without realizing it until it just clicks. Like with it turning out to be his partner, his boss or the doctor redux. Any of those could have sneaked up on him.
