I'm currently only on ep. 17 but just wanted to start a Thread for people to talk about how wonderfully tragic this show is.
So far Its been Two episodes, 9-10, Makoto's arc. First time I weeped for thirty minutes strait!
A friend of mine who's on the football team told me he sobbed throughout Makoto's arc and the ending! Panzy...
I guess its safe to put spoilers on a thread like this.

I loved Ayu's story, but Makoto's arc will truly be the saddest arc I do believe. Seriously, I cried a lot especially during the ending...it was so perfect(ly tragic). Especially the reading manga and talking about marriage part...

when Ayu and Yuichi kiss, I love the conversation afterward and how Yuichi blushes. It's so adorable.
I agree with Makoto's being really sad. Same with Shiori but at the end everything is OK. I was glad it had a happy ending because Air was really sad.

shiori: did I keep smilling? shiori arc made me so sad, or nayu's arc :( really this anime is so suburb and touching, makoto arc was the one i less enjoyed

Really? For me the ending was happy and everyone tragedies being averted.
In Air they both die.
Clannad is sad too. :'(

i loved Mai's realization, when she figures out that she is the cause of all the monsters..... my god, the guilt over that fact the she hurt Sayuri....
and when Akiko gets hit by the car.... my god i don't remember breathing.

This show was a cavalcade of unending tragedy, pretty hard to spot the worst/best. The Ayu story was kind of like a punch in the stomach even if you do see it coming by the time the "Canon" has repeated itself that many times. When she leaves her backpack behind I was ready to yell at the screen at Yuuichi not to turn around to get it, you damn fool.
I was amazed how every time you see Nayuki say "Liar" it's a little more tragic.
But the WORST... in #10, Yuuichi takes Makoto out for the last time when all she can do is make that little howling whine, and Akiko is mopping the floor... when they leave and Akiko starts crying that was incredibly rough. That might be the one.

Episodes 9-10 were so sad, but even the episodes earlier were crazy. I cried at the end of 10 when Makoto died... I also did when Shiori went away around 17th ep, and in the end when Ayu did too. Also nearly did when Akiko had that accident, and almost did when Nayuki was depressed because of it. All in all I cried only a few times on this one, but that's only because I usually don't have problems with stories like this. This time though it was different. Kanon rocks.
Just watched this, and overall it was enjoyable. :) I don't know if it was the 2002 or 2006 version tho. But I finally saw one of them :) Overall it is a recommended Anime!

I just finished episode 10 and jeezy chreezy man... that broke me up a good lil bit actually. The whole thing with Makoto was just... sad. The way she just kept kinda whimpering that "Auu" and playing with the bells until she finally just... yeah.
I gotta take a break on this one and watch something funny. Maybe catch up on Hayate.
Makoto's arc I agree is probably the saddest. Mai is sad too. I loved the happy ending and when Ayu and Yuichi confess they feelings. For a happier side, I love whenever a character ate Akiko's jam that really warped the eater.

I usually consider myself a stoic person but in episode 23 when Ayu makes her final wish, I was weeping like a baby.
