remake needed

Instead of remaking classic Hollywood movies or every creativily & financially successul foreign movie imho 'Loft' would be a great film that would benifit from an American remake

The plot has very interesting ideas & a lot of mystery but is also quite unfocussed and could REALLY do with some streamlining.

And the direction (and cinematography and music) of the original is, yes, slick. But in a totally bland, unpersonal way. Trying to be 'flashy' in a boring, mediocre tv-commercial way literally every second of the movie.

An American director with some actual personality and some rewrites could make it into a great movie

Actually, i think this movie is perfect just the way it is, the only problem being it's about 15 minutes to long.

And if there is to be a remake, why not let Erik direct it instead of some overpayed hollywood director? he did an awesome job on the flemish version, so i'd say it's only fair he gets a shot at the american version.

I personally also hope, that if there ever is to be a remake, it won't be overhyped like many other Hollywood flicks. If they keep it low profile, don't get any insane hollywood twists in it and stick to the original storyline, the movie will be top notch.

Oh and btw, the whole idea of the plot is to be unstreamlined, that's the brilliance of the movie. U don't know what has to be placed where until the very end, which keeps the movie interesting and , in my case, left viewers with burning anticipation to see what really happened and, most importantly, why.

This isn't just a typical "whodunit" movie, this is a pure solid work of art.
Erik Van Looy is a directing genious. Many of the current "Hollywood Directors" could definatly learn a thing or two from him. Most importantly: Keep a movie modest.

I gave this a solid 9.5/10 , it would've been a 10/10 if the ending was shorter.
(I'm not gonna explain why due to spoilers, but ppl who've seen it will know what i'm talking about).

Anyway, i'm glad to see other people burning to get this movie worldwide :)

How about NO. A remake is not needed. Especially not one made by an American. Your odd comments about the possibility of Americans having a personality is both absurd and laughable. Americans don't have personalities, they have nationalism instead for that particular aspect of life. Americans with personalities, ha, don't make me laugh.

Hidyho!

best part of your post: remake is not needed. couldn't agree more. this film is far from being perfect but it has its strenghts and I dont think any newer versions can aspire to be much better.

where you *beep* up: insulting a whole nation by explicitly saying americans (I assume those from the USA) don't have personality. yeah, not cool and, most certainly, not accurate.

random thought: how can people refer to the hypothetical remake as an american version?? do all american films follow the same style/patterns/school? Can we put all the films made in the USA in one cathegory and label it as american? I'd definitely like to know what are the attributes necessary to be included in that genre...
